Thoughts on the 20X and Shiva

I was messing around yesterday and putting together a gig rig. Decided to check the 20th X and the Shiva out on Bogner front load and rear load cabs side by side. Each amp was plugged into to one 16 ohm rearload 412 V30 cab and a 16 ohm front load all V30 cab. I was really deciding on cabs to use but the experiment turned into which amp has the biggest bottom end and balls. to make a long story short, the 20th Shiva with 6550's outshined the 20X, not by a little bit, but a lot when it came to bottom end, and holding together the gain without falling apart. Fuck me I was surprised and floored. The 20X of course has many more things going for it, but dammit I was shocked. This was after a few hours of band practice, but I am going to go out and check it out again while my ears are rested.

Will make some quick clips with this new Zoom video thingy today and you can decide. I never reached a conclusion on the cabs, but the front load does project a little more, but the rear will have more bottom end. Probably, the conclusion is going to be use two cabs with the head, one of each and get the best of both camps.

I'm hooped. But seriously, VERY interesting comparo. I've had a boner for the Sheevs for ages, it's just a classic sounding beauty. But I chose the 20thA XTC due to the options. I am still blown away with the 20thA XTC, beyond blown away, it'll never leave my possession... But maybe, MAYBE a Sheevs is a good thang to "add".

But, the Shiva with 6550's, I knew sounded light a freight train coming, but I had never really got them side by side. That little fucker has got some balls. It does one thing really well. That being the difference in the two.

When I get some clips up, you are gonna shit yourself. Thing about the 20th Shiva, you can pick up a used one fairly reasonable in price. Reverb or without makes no difference. Removed the pan in mine and bought the cool as fuck black tolex shell to match my 20X. I just couldn't bond with white/S&P or anything and cane.

Yep! I agree. The Shiva has a great low end. Stays together all the way up and has killer tone. The harmonics are outstanding. The 20x is also a killer head but allot different and definitely has the versatility.

No. Sure haven't. I am typically not too fond of 6550's. But, in the Shiva, they make that amp worth keeping.

No. You may need a hot quad though.

I think Steve is crashed bout now. He'll be up early though. The Boy barely sleeps Knowing him, the amp's don't compare. Two different camps. The Marsha and Naked are in the mooded Marshall camp. The Bogner camp is the Bogner camp. No comparison. Depends what you're lokking for. I had a Friedman. Great amp but I like the bogner camp for now.
