Never heard a Larry amp. I wouldn’t buy a Fortin based on principle. Guy’s got a BIG mouth.
I’m always curious about new gear, so I’d wanna try the hexdrive and maybe the new ep out of curiosity (probably won’t care for either), but honesty have yet to try a single Fortin product that I feel is anything great and I’ve tried the Natas, Meshuggah, and owned a Grind, 33, Fuzz and Zuul. I’ve not tried his modded Marshall’s, but owned a few Gower’s and am guessing they’d be similar in tone

Is it Fortin though? Or his promo team that he is surrounded by

One thing I will say is...I know a few who have a Larry. They've had Wizards, 2C+s, SLOs, modded Marshalls X50. All those have been sold, and they still have the Larry. And, when was the last time you saw one for sale? I for one have NEVER seen one come up. So they must be pretty damn good. Would I pay that kind of cash and wait a few yrs? I don't think I'd have the patience for it lol.

As a person with 3 Wizards - (down from 4 - just sold one :( )..... I love them all. That being said, after playing an older model Larry Dino I would take a new Larry Dino over any of them. The cost isn't an issue. I just can't deal with an unknown, years-long wait.
Out of curiosity, where’d you get to try one?

Also, how would you describe its tone and how it would compare to something like the Wizards?

Warhead78 and Flavatrocious here on RT are local to me. We had a mini ampfest last month. Warhead78 owns the Larry and a Hermannson. I was able to get the Fortin dialed in similar (not quite exact, but close) to the Larry actually, but it lacked the balls of the Larry. The Larry had the balls/punch of the Wizards, super tight and percussive and aggressive. More saturated than the Wizards and the slightest bit of compression. The overall voicing was more in line with the tones I go for. It's an older Dino not sure the model number.

I'm surprised this topic is still floating around. There is a thread on here from a few years back where Larry asked Mike about the Girth and Grind on the Hulk mod. Mike told him what he used and Larry even said that circuit was way different than his Bite & Punch circuit. It's safe to say he didn't/doesn't believe it, but best I can tell that is where all of this started.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=56786&p=667137&hilit=book#p667137

I own, love, and abuse some Fortin amps and Mike has been nothing but cool to me over the years. I haven't played a Larry, nor have I had any interaction with him, but based what I've heard about Larry's amps I would also own a Larry Dino PMM in a heart beat if I had the cash.

Sounds like he`s talking about Gower and I guess Fortin. If the guy cant build an amp in 18 months he needs to go in business with Marc cameron

No. Definitely Fartin.

From Larry’s Facebook post 9-16-2018:

“And now for once I'll be very courageously, because now I even show you some very detailled photos of the inside, very detailled photos of the circuitry of my new flag ship DINO 962 :) Photos so detailled, that you even can read the color codes of the resistors, the values of the foil capacitors and that you can track almost every wire from the eyelet boards to the pots, tubes, switches, aso. And I show it not only to you enthusiasts, gear heads and technical interested people all over the world, but I show it also to YOU amp designers AND to all those, which are hyped as "master(s) of high gain", but which rather have to be titled as "master(s) of plagiarism" ;) No I don't speak about reputable people like Mike Soldano, Steve Fryette, Reinhold Bogner, Peter Diezel, Rick Saint Pierre, Mark Cameron aso, just to mention a few – no, I'm not speaking about those, which do have their own ideas, which have done their own R&D and which haven't to look into the circuit designs of others for creating awesome sounding amplifiers by their own. To whom/which this text is concerned will recognize it instantly by himself/themselves 8-| Now go and download these photos, make it big & bigger, to figure out all details and also my circuitry secrets – nonetheless you won't be able, to plagiarize anything, what's sounding close to a Larry and no, it's not the missing Mojo (Mojo doesn't sound, this is a rumor), but the absence of real own ideas ;) If you maybe can't recognize enough details on these photos, simply drop me an email and I'd send you more photos of HiQ. You haven't to order an amp from me once again, so you'd save money this time :) But believe me, there's much more required, plagiarizing a Larry amp (or this amp partially) successfully and convincingly, than only photos, or the amp itself, to re-engineer it completely :P You've already failed in the past – and you'd fail in future again & again :D But now enough of the rant! Here we go:

Wizard which amp or mod did Fortin take from it?

I've never uploaded clips on YouTube, because I've never had enough time left over, to produce adequate clips of my amps.
Have you seen, who's uploaded the DINO clips on YouTube?
You probably know, who "gainmonster" is?

Just for the case you don't know:
It's a guy who has introduced himself ONLY as an enthusiastic guitar player and a frenetic gear head, nothing else - this has been back already in 2004
Then he was placing lots of very special technically questions to me via email from 2004 to 2006 (my mail count says 274 emails back & forth with him).
Then he's ordered two amps from me. A DINO 939 in 2006 and a British Purist in 2007
Just 6 months after he got the 2nd amp from me, he suddenly was founding his own amp company.

Dino 939. And part of the impetus behind the redesign of the 939 and the new 962.

Me neither. A hack is a hack. At least try to come up something original. Good or bad.

It was Facebook. Guy was very vocal about his politics and took major swipes at those who were right of him. He’s got a right to his opinion, sure. But that stuff turns me off when it comes to business owners.

Larry Amps check off all of my bucket list options as far as amps go. I have my eyes out for a Mad Professor but I'm thinking Larry or Mad Professor or something similar now.

Clips are clips. Some, of known shit amps sound great. Others, of killer amps sound like shit. I trust the ears of guys that own them, and never sell them. I believe mhenson. I’ve trusted guy’s opinions and they’ve always been right. If I trusted clips I’d have never bought an SLO, C+, Wizard...etc.

Is the Fortin a calimod? Because that's just a jose/cameron kind of circuit. My point being if Larry is saying Fortin ripped him to make the cali, then Larry would have had to ripped the Jose circuit.

I think it's likely Larry is "generally" saying Fortin has no original circuit designs, which would probably be true based on all the Fortin schematics I have.
If that's who he's even talking about.

Nah it was about the Girth / Grind / HF / LF gain controls on the Hulk mods / Natas / Satan etc. That was the point that Mike said they were the Garnet tone stack some time ago IIRC.

It was this one. They were actually pretty close to one another overall. Not sure what the specifics are to it. I think Hermansson did a build thread on this amp with clips if you search for it. I think Warhead78 may have posted a video of it as well. He had it listed in the classifieds here for a while after he got the Larry, but I think he took it down.

If I could get it in a month or two, I'd do it in a heartbeat. My attention span won't extend longer than that. lol

This one was purchased on Rerverb for about $3500 or so, maybe a little less. It didn't have a logo on it, but Larry gave him a new one and confirmed the details/history of the amp. He actually went over it for Warhead78 before it was shipped to him I think. Seller was semi-local to him I believe.
