Spit into a clean polish cloth works great - no joke.

I use Murphy's Oil soap in warm water and a wash cloth...and scrub!!!

I dont oil my necks anymore. I dont like the feel of oil on my fingers, strings or neck. After a good scrub with Murphy's it dries out nicely and with a little steel wool on the back the neck feels smooth and broken in....without the clammy oily tackyness

I have always just used a dab of lemon oil and some elbow grease on my maple board Charvels.

Gorgomyte works great on all fretboards including Maple. I use a clean spot of the Gorgomyte cloth for every 2-3 frets. First I do only the board itself for 2 or 3 frets then do the frets. That way the black impurities from the frets aren't spread onto the board much and it will be much easier to clean it all off with your clean rag. Always keep switching to a clean part of your towel when wiping off otherwise it will take even more effort to rub it off. The finished product is awesome and normal frets feel like stainless frets with hardly any effort.

if it wont come clean with the usual methods u can try a mr. clean magic eraser as they work good on almost anything. U can get them at any grocery store etc for a few bucks.
