Hi there,

I kindly ask for some advice concerning multi-effect devices with an Diezel-Einstein.
According to your experience: Which multi-effect device could you recommend?

It should have good quality, not fizzy delay, chorus and reverb – that are the effects, I mainly use (additional effects like flanger etc. are appreciated but not necessary).
And it should not suck tone in any way and be userfriendly. My budget is around 400 Euro (?).

I’m thinking of a used G-Force, though it is an old model, or a lexicon MX(300 – 400) or Rocktron xpression (I dont’ no any other).

Could you give me a suggestion? Parallel and/or serial loop? Reasonable foot controler?

(Background: Currently I’m using a pedal-board with stompboxes (Rmc Wah, Analogman Bi-Comp, Box of Rock, TC Electronic SCF Chorus, model 1975, TC-Electronic Vintage Delay). I like analog devices, but I’m tired of stomping around and using long cables to connect pedals to the loop (I use the TC Delay in parallel loop, which works very fine -in serial loop it darkens the sound; my chorus only works fine in the serial loop, now I have it before the amp, here it ads a some noise on higher gain-settings).

I’d appreciate any answer,

Thank you!

My Einstein is my main baby & I use a Rocktron Intellifex Online in the serial loop. I've owned the G-force & still have a G-major, however, I just can't find a transparent-organic enough tone with any of the tc electronic stuff? (might just be 'cause I'm a tech tard though?) Anyway, I've used the Rocktron in all of my rigs during my GAS phase, & to be honest, it's one of the only pieces of gear that I've owned for quite awhile and continue to use with the exception of the Diezel Einstein and my Pauls............? Not sure if that's any help, just my experiences.................

I use an Intellifex LTD with my VH4 in the parallel loop. The unit goes for only 120€ used and I'm very happy with it. It took some time for me to get used to programming it but that's the only "complaint" I have. The sound is great, no tone sucking or any other problems plus it is built to last. Imo best value for the money!

I had a G-major a few years back. The only think I liked better was programming the presets and it has some more features. But soundwise imo the Intellifex and Xpression are way ahead. I haven't heard the G-Force yet so I can't comment on that but it is supposed to be a lot better than the G-Major.

I can't vouch enough for Eventide TimeFactor. It is not exactly a multieffects processor, but is a great pedal. Terrific delays, can do short reverbs to an extent, and will do great choruses. But can't do them altogether. Definitely a step-up from my Boss GT-6 and TC G-Major ...
...and it is MIDI switchable. I don't like the tap dancing as well, but after 15 years on the processors, I decided to break with the "acceptable" quality and go to the well deserved effects quality match for the Einstein. Very happy I did it.
Since I don't use delay+reverb, chorus+delay or chorus+reverb - it does it for me.

why not get a voodoo labs switcher and just leave the pedals in a drawer? you could then get the great sounds from individual pedals and then have it all switchable on one footswitch.

I comp this idea. Works very well and you will still have the possibility to enhance your rig with a multi-fx processor(s) if wanted and still leave the signal path unaffected. But then you will be required to enter the world of racks and MIDI, which may be a sort of downer for some.

There is also other more or less similar choices for routers/switchers as Voodoo Lab's, from which some are either more complex, expensive, user friendly, useless, transparent, larger, heavier, harder to get, unreliable and so on...

I use the DMC/VoodooLabs GCX and Ground Control Pro to control my whole rig (2 heads + 10U rack) and so far I have not had any bad experience with that combination. All in all, I think it is again a matter of personal taste in relation to money and recidence location (US Vs. Europe  ).

I had G-Major once and G-Force once also. G-Force by far was the best. Big easy screen to see everything, no tone loss, tons of variables that you can do, great tuner, great noise gate, run FX like pedals in parallel and visually see them on the screen, like to get my fanboy clean I had the advanced chorus on, pitch shifter on slightly and dual detune all at once, and you see the little boxes on the screen as they where three pedals running parallel. Very cool device IMO

Sidenote:   Volume & size. I play full-time in a Barband & the Herbert is too much for most rooms I gig in.

eddiespaghetty:
I've recently purchased the new Boss GT-10 and am currently trying how to figure out how to utilize it in my rig. So far, it seems to be an outstanding rig as far as effects go & the features are incredible. On top of that, the models sound so good direct that your options become almost limitless. They finally got it right without all that "digital hiss" that seemed inherent in prior units.

if dialed in correctly (i mean setting all input, output levels correctly, bypassing the boost by turning on every channel to its full setting, and running the 4 cable method) it can sound ferocious. I have had GREAT results with the tc g system. that is what is in my main rack and can be hear in the vids on my page and the videos on the Down From Up page. Only thing, as i stated earlier, you MUST take time to program this thing correctly with your rig, if not it sounds terrible.

I have this as well, but with my Einstein head. I just got it recently so I'm still learning the ins and outs of it but wowzers....what freedom with the 4cable method. Works great, sounds even better! I'm going to be scoring some guitar for an animation movie for Pixar in July so it should sound great!
:) I'm using an ISO cab with a Diezel speaker in it. Just playing around with some settings at this point....lots to do!

Thank vou for the posting(s) - I'd like to have a G-System, but it is too expensive for me right now - and maybe to much work to set it up.

What about a TC-G-Force - is this an alternative - or is an Rocktron INtellifex/Rocktron a better choice for the money?

Thanks!

I never played the Rocktron but had the G-Force when I had the Boogie rack, and the possibilities are endless and I found it more user friendly than even G-Major. Mainly because of the large screen and how it is so much easier to see what you are doing when placing FX in parallel or serial etc. and the tuner you can see from a mile a way. :)

I run a Glass Nexus by Damage Control and it works great, you can run reverb and delay at the same time in addition to 1 other modulation effect. delays are nice and the modulation effects are very cool, trem, rotary, phase, chorus, detune, flange, vibe etc...
I don't think many people are aware of these units but they are definetly worth checking out. Buy if from mf and return it if you don't like it.

Since we are on the subject and it looks like I am gonna be the single guitar player, I will have to pick up a lot of the slack with all the Harmonies I wrote in my demo's

Is there a floor board that I can 1 switch channels on a Herbert or VH4S midi and 2 has FX that are good. Not much. I just need the basics, Chorus, Delay, reverb, and maybe a little tremelo. Thanks!

I used a boss gt6 (no distortion, effects and channel switching only)for a while w/ my vh4, it worked but the effects kinda suck. it will do what you want. the midi channel switching worked great,I played 100 plus gigs w/ it and it never failed.I think they are up to the gt10 now.
Currently I run a midi buddy midi pedal into my vh4 and use the midi thru to the glass nexus unit and it all works great.
The midi buddy does not seem like the most durablt unit but it is holding up so far.
