Tones you hated, but now like...

When Opus came out, Ghost's 1st, I thought "what's up with the restraint in the guitar tones? Not enough gain.'" and now I think it fits the vibe perfectly.
Could not agree more...I thought it was drastically under-gained. But it started to hit me that they were going for a mid 70's NWOBHM, Blue Oyster Cult, Early Mercyful Fate vibe...Then it all made sense....Perfect sense actually.

This is the wizard right here . This tones fuvking rules . My wizard sounds like this straight in
You don’t like ?

When I first heard that album, I didn't give it a lot of credit, Phil sounded so strung out. Grew to love it though, considering the context, and the Floods solo is one of my all time favorites.

"everybody smoke heroin"

Can't think of many specific tones I hated and now love apart from the ghetto Black Metal tones like Mayhem and such, but for that style of art they are perfect. I just hadn't delved into the genre enough early on to appreciate what the intentions were. Took me years to come around.
I agree with others though that there are a few tones that I would say I really dislike when isolated like Dime, Randy and Yngwie etc... I'd fatigue of those tones real fast if thats all I had to play with alone in a room, but in context of a mix they work great.

Agree on the early Ghost, but definitely grew on me and wouldn’t be the same any other way.

Not a band, but a tone I hated was that edge of breakup sound. But the last couple years I’ve gone from hate to it’s ok. Mainly because I use it as a practice tone for clean chording, picking and legato, so it’s started growing on me.

WHICH ONE, I've yet to hear one sound like THAT
Easily sounds like my mtl2 el34
Straight in
And it destroys
This what it sounds like when people are not afraid to turn the knobs up . Including gain and treble . I already posted Rick’s dimebag rig on here . He verified it all

When I first started playing, a gazillion years ago, I loved EVH’s tone sound, and how gain-y it sounded. But, I didn’t like AC/DC’s guitar tone sound. Of course, I didn’t realize how close in sonic DNA they were to each other. Needless to say, I now love that Marshall-y goodness of AC/DC’s early years. And, now I realize how un-gain-y EVH’s early sound was.

anything with too much Marshall dna in it, specially older low gain tones or early 80s raspy ones.

Perhaps not exactly specific to tones, but the adults around me when I was young listened to a lot of Southern/Classic/80s Rock and I kind of pushed against that with what I listen/listened to as a teen(Goth, Industrial, EDM, Nu Metal, etc...) But I love CCR and Lynyrd Skynyrd now days. A lot of the 80s stuff is pretty epic, too. Especially vinyl. Perhaps lo-fi, but "in the room" so to speak. So, that's my answer; vinyl. :ROFLMAO:

My son only listens to skynrd , eagles , and the Allmans . I like skynyrd but I need coke and drugs to like the other two
