Send it to Mike Fortin. Lol.

  That would mean sending it back all the way in my direction. I think this amp has traveled enough! It is a heavy beast of an amp and it could have been shaken, rattled, or rolled by Fedex...God only knows.

I have had the amp for 2 years without trouble. Shipping an amp is like throwing it through a black hole. We don't know what happens. Anyway I found this thread on the Gear Page about fuses failing for no reason.

https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index. ... n.1194766/

To highlight a good point:

It's called a "nuisance" fuse blow. We techs take it as a matter of faith that this never happens and if it happens on our bench we start looking for a cause.

But it does happen. Every time you power up that fuse is stressed. You can actually see the metal fuse link move sometimes. Eventually they do fail, for much the same reasons as any other component.

The usual rule is that if a fuse blows you replace it ONE time with the same value.

Violations of this rule can get expensive. I recently rebuilt the power section of an HRD where the fuse had been replaced with a 15. The problem was that the flyback diode had shorted. By the time it got to me the circuit board was burned beyond salvage.

But what ever you do, if you send it out, fully insure it as someone else sent their DAR out and it got lost in the abyss.

Blown fuses normally are from bad power tubes with these amps. Of course looking to see if anything burning out inside is another cause but not normally the case. Soldering is your friend if you know what you're doing. These definitely rock though! 3 years going strong.

Have you profiled your DAR's?

That would be a great profile. I would imagine a pita if you wanted to capture all of the different settings though.

So how do you guys tame the fizziness of your FBM? I find mine extra fizzy as soon as I turn the gain up. I'm wondering if I should try a new speaker. It's currently plug in a Mesa v30.

I am using H30s,so I am not having that issue. But here is a trick I learned early on.

Turn the right small knob above the gain knob down a bit. Those two small pots are kinda like high and low gain filters. I run those two knobs around 9 o'clock on the left one(low)and 2 o'clock on the right one(high).

Also remember that the bass, mid and treble knobs on the tone stack are like faders. Turn them all the way down and nothing comes out of the amp. Then you can turn just the treble knob up and fine tune just the treble with the right knob above the gain knob without any other freqs in they way.

Thanks for the input man. I played a bit more with the filter knobs. I was already close to your settings ( left knob was around 8 o'clock and right knob was around 3 o'clock). And I did noticed a slight improvement when I tried yours.

The setting of the shape knob also seen to affect the fizziness. It gets pretty bad when it is set around 8-10 o'clock, nut things started to improved around 2 o'clock.

to bad he went out of business. dude is victor vonfrankenstein of the amp world....

Hello there!

I found you through your messages.
Hope you are doing fine.

May I ask you a question... about DAR - fbm amp -
have you ever changed tubes in it? These tubes could cause problems because they were not designed for audio.

By the way - if you still have FBM amp and maybe want to sell it - let me know, I will pay GOOD.

Best regards,
Alex.

cool sounding amp that looks like amelia earheart’s instrument panel

love the giant sideways tubes!

Regardless of the issue—I am fucking jealous! Congrats. I would love one

B.A.T. has been using the 6C33C power tubes for their high end audio amps for years.
A power tube is a power tube. They were all designed to create power.

No, they are not safe and owners of these amps confirm how destructive these tube could be.
6c33c tubes were designed as power regulators and as you know they were used in Mig 25 fighter jet.
I talked to people who built radios and hi-fi gear in 1980s-1970s in former USSR with 6c33c's tubes. And they say that it is pretty hard tube to work with and these tubes are capable of "lava-effect", when they rise current and burn tube sockets and destroy transformers.

Manual says 4, but photos show only 3.

Wtf is a DAR FBM anyways ?
When I was a kid, I was sitting out front of my parent's tattoo shop. There was an old man out there. I think he lived in the motel next to the shop. He was smoking and staring off into the distance. I asked him, "What are you looking at?"
He looks at me, then points, "What does that look like, boy?"
He was pointing at the whataburger. "Looks like Whataburger"
He nods. "To some." He was quiet for a bit. "To others, it's the Fourth Dimension"

Reminds me of something similar... when I was a kid, I went through a punk rock stage and would wear a mohawk and dye it all different colors. Well, one day I went and sat on a bench next to this old man waiting on the bus. He kept looking over at me and so I said "What's a matter old man, you never do anything wild when you were young?" And he looked back at me and said "Well, I once fucked a parrot, and I thought you might be my son!"

Then why are you trying to buy one?
