Only ones I've liked at volumes that are not ear shattering are the friedmans.

Top ten ways to mod a Marshall to sound like there's an SD-1 in front of it! Joking. Kinda.
End of the day, this IS the tone! with a nod to the 808 or TS9 as well in spots given the player. I always come back to it. Even the new and improved versions of all those pedals still leads me back to the originals. That 40-60$ yellow brick you can find on the used market in a pinch. Any city, any country..if you need the heat, you will find it!

I would add, that while the 2203/4 + SD1 is great, it’s the little things that a modded Marshall can add that make the difference. Increased lows, tightness without losing lows, feel, gain structure..all are slightly different with a good modded Marshall to make guys want one vs the tried n true boosting of a stocker.

You can't have a list of modded Marshall style amps without including the Peavey VTM. It was one of the first, if not the first production amp that fits the description.

I suggest a handicap!

Modify your lists based on ability to actually receive product.

All jokes aside, Hopkins, Monomyth, and Hermannesson are all killing it lately in the modded Marshall realm. If I was paying out today for someone to turn a Marshall inside out, it would be one of these three.

Recently picked up a Hopkins Pandora 2203X and it sounds really good to me. Fits what I was looking for much better than a JJ Jr, 3534, Yeti, and mini Jube that I bought and sold last year. It is also different enough from my Quick Rod that I am keeping them both.

For actual modded Marshall’s Cameron and Monomyth were my favorites, but for that overall kinda sound my 2 favorite amps are my Diezel Purpleface and stock ‘67 Marshall Plexi with a boost. I haven’t really been interested in modded Marshall’s since then. Other great amps with their own variation/take on that sound would be a Naylor, Wizard and Reason SM50. Larry I’m sure would be there too and who knows, maybe even beat all those ones. All the countless other Marshall type/modded Marshall style amps I’ve tried aren’t necessary imo with those other ones mentioned if you’re looking for the very best tones out there

I recently got my first modded marshall, Ceriatone Molecular 50w. While diode clipping is great, without diodes engaded it sounds very good with sd-1 in front. I know that the amp is based on cameron atomica, so without diodes engaded it's probably similar to stock jcm800, never had one though. Great thing about this amp is that there is resonance control and negative feedback. With stock jcm800 you can't get that extra low end from the amp, i asume. I was wondering now if there's a reason to have 2204 while having molecular which is based on that amp and has more options or maybe tonally they have lot's of difference. Would be cool to get some insight about it from the users of these amps. Cheers.

Opened this thread hoping to these guys mentioned. Nick's definitely on par with ANYONE if you want modded Marshall.

I had a Chupa and it was killer! The 2555x just has something that makes me smile every time I plug into it.

I will have to add the Makoplex to the list. Great amp!

Would you say there's lot's of difference between 2555x and yeti without diodes engaded? I mean that basic sound.

If you are a Marshall lover, you should have an original REAL Marshall as well as your Ceriatone clone...there's something in the real deal that is just different enough in the mids to own both. I've played through a few Ceriatones and while cool, they all had this high end thing going on that I didn't care for. Great values though and offer a lot of flexibility. I did own a Cali Modded (Fortin) 2204 Ceriatone clone that was cool but the stock PT went out and I had to replace them with Classictone transformers. Sounded a little better to me after that.
