Top wrapping a tune-o-matic bridge

gotchya, thanks, I thought about that after looking closer at the string gauge. I've seen lots of players do this, maybe I'll try it sometime. Can the strings move laterally at all on the tailpiece?
The strings don't move at all on the tailpiece.

Remember, the tailpiece originally designed as a wraparound bridge. Being a separate tailpiece was a repurposing that came a few years later.

If you prefer lighter strings and have a lighter pick attack you might prefer wrap around. If you prefer heavy strings and have a more dynamic heavy pick attack you might prefer the normal method.

I first tried this with the intention of compensating for tension by changing the strings to a lighter gauge.

All it did for me was gouge up my tail peices
What I did to alleviate that issue was just take a butter knife to the stop piece and gouge it all up BEFORE I put the strings on that way there was no issue I could blame on top wrapping.

I top wrap everything.

I puts less forward pressure on the bridge and over time will help the bridge from leaning forward and causing intonation problems

Im still not sure that it improved tone or sustain, but 100% it holds pitch better. I was just about done with these Jackson locking tuners.

I don't think tone or sustain changes at all, it's just a slinkier feel.

I hate locking tuners for the most part.

All this for what is already a short scale!!??!? This post is weak handed haha
