today.

was playing and it cut out.

i've had the same 12ax7 tube in it that i put in there 6 months ago for the reverb slot.

i switched 4 different "good" tubes into the #6 reverb slot, after it quit.

knob all the way, halfway..1/4 way..doesn't matter. footswitched on and off...even unplugged from the amp... turned amp on and off...nothing.

checked the wires in the back sending to the tank, and they're all plugged in. checked the tank, it feels like the wires are plugged in.

if i tap on the reverb tank, it makes the signature "spring" sound through the amp. but, none of my sound is affected by the reverb.

strange.

anyone?

Could it possibly be the control knob on the front? Stuck in the off position? Not the knob itself but the thing it turns?

pot moves freely.

email on the way.
thanks Ian.

i'll let you know how it goes.

hahaha

pot moves freely!

only if i smoked it! beer is plenty!

found some vos 6l6 tubes....oh my, the thump and hammer!! good christ!

would really sound great with some reverb washing on them though.....

Smoke some beer- That should give you some reverb!

@ Yeti .....
So you liked the 6L6 better than the 5881 stock tubes? I read many forums explaining that their TM 4212 sounded more to their liking with a different set of tubes. Or is that after you smoked your beers? :-0

let me clarify

i've only drank beer fast enough to make it smoke ONE time...!

haha

i switched out the 5881 groove tubes that were stock...to ruby 6l6 matched quad.

and then, i stumbled across some Vintage old stock 6l6...and they just sound SO much better.

i only have 2.....so i put them in the middle slots and use the amp on lowest power available...

i've heard back from nate, but, aside from taking the amp for service, didnt really get much info or insight as to what it might be, other than the reverb driver...whatever that means.

i put a brand new reverb unit that i bought (same kind) in the amp...no dice.

tried 12ax7 and 12at7 replacement tubes in slot 6 (reverb slot). no dice.

checked all the wires i could. the black "return" wire for the reverb hums...the red "input" wire doesn't when unplugged from the reverb unit.

it's something inside the amp, but what, i just dont know.

probably, im just going to end up trading it in at GC towards something else. they can worry about the reverb, as its still under warranty that was transferred.

i just can't bring myself to do it...trading it in that is.
i just love this amp too much. i love it more when the reverb is working.

i've tried one more email to nate...as, the responses he gave me were pretty brief, and directing me towards a service center (which, by his info, the closest one to me is about 2.5 hours away in ohio).
i dont know any local techs, and, being that im pretty handy with this kind of stuff, i'd much rather just trust my own skill to fix it, if i can.

so, the saga continues.

this amp CRUSHES with these 2 tubes in the middle, especially with both overdrives in 10 watt mode, biased to 130 by the way...SOOOO BOOMY. i need to grab another pair of each of them and set em up matched.

I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT!! You were NOT gonna get rid of it and leave me alone up here!

Like me- you run it hot. Biased up at 130, set down to 10 watts. I like channel 1 at full power, but the others just ROCK at 10 watts!

I gotta try those tubes!

dude, snag a pair of either RCA or sylvania matched ones...theyre not all that expensive on ebay..

those two match up so i stuck em in there.

I'd try fixing the reverb myself it I was you. How bad can it be? It has to be either the unit itself is fried or maybe a connection needs soldering or something like that.

My unit came with 6L6 Groove Tubes already. I replaced them with the Tungsol. I can't say they made any improvement as it may not be related to my complaints of this unit (You know what my gripes are with this amp). I didn't try your grill removal solution because of the fact that I amy be selling it. I do like how this amp sounds through a 2X12 Extension Cab loaded with Celestion G12-T75. I'm thinking of selling it and getting a TM 4100 Head with the cash and use it with my 2x12 cab.

As for your reverb issue .....
If your local Guitar Center is closer than the nearest Egnater warranty center (and the amp is still under warranty), Why not just take it to GC and let them either repair onsite or send it out for you? Myself personally, I don't use the amp reverb as I, like a handful of others, don't like the reverb section of the amp.

i wouldn't let guitar center recommend me strings, let alone one of their flunkies touch my amp!

at this point, im a better amp tech for the tourmaster than any of their guys!

i just haven't been fucking with it...i play without reverb now...no biggie....when i get to play that is....

i've been experimenting with other mods for the voicing and such, and have to say, theres a LOT you can mod with this amp to get it sounding more modern, tighter, and more aggressive. but it takes a lil bit of work, and some soldering skillz.
