Tried Quad Cortex today..

Yeah I had a good experience with the QC. I sold mine due to really not needing it but I miss mine. Very tempted to get another. QC with the KSR PA50 was damn near identical to my 2204 and my 6505.
 
I heard Ben Eller and Riffs and beards play through one, and unless they were lying, the couldn't even tell the feel difference between whatever they were using. Made me think long and hard about the qc. I would give it another try. I tried an amp the other day, and it sounded like balls. next day I retried with an open mind and used my ears to dial it in, and it was good. Not great, but not as horrible as it had been the day before. Sometimes we go into things with big expectations and quit too soon.
 
I just got one , I made some profiles right away and was pretty impressed with that. The fx are decent , not as good as axe fx , and I havent played with the stock amp models yet so verdict is out still on those.

I dig the ambient reverb sounds for IEM gigs it really helps make it not sound so dry and gives it some space.

I don't think the amp controls are accurate the way that the fractal stuff works. Meaning that the fractal controls are basically identical to the way the real amps work. Ie: lowering the gain control with bright cap engaged gets you more of the bright cap in the circuit .... and so on ....

But like I said verdict is still out on those haven't had time with the stock models yet.

I tried it thru a pair of Genelec studio monitors at ear level so i don't think that's the problem. Also lowering the gain didn't help and the lower gain presets/captures didn't sound good either.

Just made this quick clip , profile was a real cameron ccv , and a cameron ccm clone , sm57 dead center on a h30 anniversary celestion. Ccm and ccv profiles.... through cla10 studio monitors .... very low volume... pretty cool ! I'm impressed how well it cleans up... this clip is a little
On the bright side for sure , that was somewhat intentional...

I'm a tube amp guy , but initial impression is very good, especially with the Profiling portion. I literally made those profiles in 5 minutes .... pretty cool , I had a great sound very very fast. That's a first for me with a Modeler.

Any chance for a clip that's recorded into a daw? Would be cool to hear the actual recorded sound with my own studio monitors.
 
Megadeth and Meshuggah seem to be getting along fine with them. I do find the brand loyalty/brand hatred perplexing. People seem to cheer each other on for shitting on a product they haven't tried... or bigging up a product the assume will be amazing because of their blind love for the brand. A loss of objectivity.

Can assure you that's not the case in this post.
 
I haven't tried the Fractal stuff and I would definitely like to but when I got the Kemper I thought "now I can have all the amps!". I sold my 6505+ I had at the time so turns out I didn't have any amps. It took me a minute to jive with the Kemper and I ended up trading for 2 Splawn amps. I got a HX stomp and I liked it a good bit but it took some tweaking to get a good tone.

The QC through the PA50 was damn near dead on and where it lacked the PA50's controls could take it the rest of the way there. I'm definitely a fan of modelers and plugins. But something about an amps power section it's just unique experience

I have a axe fx and love it for the studio. My only complaint is that it has too much lol I end up tinkering more than playing lol but it's legit , the fx are incredible. But it doesn't profile ..... and quad cortex is such a sick form factor with its small size and all the footswitches. Just add an expression pedal and your done!

I like the idea of just Profiling my big amps and sounds right into the quad and going to a rehearsal or gig or studio session. It's very convenient.

Frustrating and off-putting seems more relevant. Too much "A vs B" in the interwebzz world these days - I guess all aspects of life for that matter. If you aren't with me, you're WRONG, right?

I've had almost every modeler out there. Currently, I use the Fractal FM3, the QC, Bias FX, Amplitube, Helix plug in, and Neural DSP plugins. I use them primarily through KRK 8's, but I also have a SD Powerstage 700 into an old-school Boogie Half-Back 4x12 with Black Shadow V12's (50 watt) and Greenbacks. I have run the plugins and the FM3 and QC through that rig with cab sims off, and like the QC best thru that setup.

I think the QC is a great piece of kit. To me, the feel is right on. I know everyone has their ideas and ideals as far as that goes, but that's just my feelings on it. I miss having my Mark 4 and my Spawn Competition 50 at times, but I don't miss the potential maintenance that goes with tube heads...but they were GLORIOUS when I was able to really open them up! :cool:(y)
