Got my TJ today and boy am I struggling with the settings. I set it up like my 20th Shiva and it did not have the same warmth. While channel two does have a boatload of gain, I am having difficulties dialing a thick sound.

Would be interested in seeing other users settings.

Please help :(

Adjust with your ears, not your eyes. Number one rule when dealing with Uberschalls. Take the time to really learn the amp's quirks and it will pay off.

Channel Presence, Treble and Middle are all mutually adhered and somewhat deductive in their combined use. Basically, focus on those three EQ parameters a fair bit. This amp will not EQ like a Shiva - at all - whatsoever.

Stick the global EQs at noon for now.

On Ch.2, start with treble and middle at noon, gain maybe at 10:30, bass at 9 o'clock. Now, work the presence and sweep it from zero to tops. Hear the difference and find a range that's decent - set it. Do the same for the treble, but likely you can knock the treble to 11 o'clock or noon and you'll be okay. The MIDDLE is the big one - it seems to work in tandem with Presence and these two need to be adjusted together.

Ch.1 is a bit easier to set up, IMHO.

But don't give up!! That amp is a killer amp - and I'm telling you...ever since I sold my first TJ, I knew I shoulda kept it. Glad I have another one these days

My set up is a killer.
Channel 2:
Depth 4 o'clock
Master presence 11
Master volume 10
Channel volume 9:30
Presence 12
Treble 2:30
Mids 10:30
Bass 1 o'clock
Gain 1:30
Let me know what you think.

Thank you Ventura & Adleneknot.

I made some good progress today. I have it dialed in to where I like it, but I want to love it! This is one loud beast for sure.

No sweat - also try turning your master to noon, but use your channel volumes to taste. Just be careful about the other channel - make sure they're on zero before you flip the switches. But by opening the powersection up a bit, it changes the amp too.

I also did some bottle swapping - 6550s with higher than average PV ratings, a Jan Philips 5751 in V3, etc. But before you start rolling the glass, stick to what you have and get to know that amp. It's a sweetass amp and it's SO worth getting to know!!

Peace

the eq on TJ is a little odd, so the eq with ears is wise comment, I would eq mine almost the opposite of my other amps
when eq'd well the TJ is huge

Yeah, like Mo reiterated and I said before, get the power section going. There's no way the Twin Jet should sound thin. It's the most massive sounding amp I've ever heard.

Well, The VH4 bro!! that shit is very massive!!

I've not played a VH4 although I did play a mk2 Herbert with massive transformers and that thing was gigantic. Same ballpark with the 150 watt Twin Jet...and I'd imagine the VH4. Seems like an amp I'd enjoy but the compression might ruin it for me...I love the openness of the TJ.

That's the only thing that bothers me a bit in my VH4 compressing and dryness, that's why it needs to be played loud really loud. The TJ is definitely open thick chunky...luv it however the Über Rev2 owns them all. Best amp ever created IMO. I'm thinking in getting the Rev blue tho.

All I need is the Twin Jet and I'm set for the heavy stuff...just saying ;). It has the balls and clarity that I couldn't find in a modern sounding amp. I've tried the Rev. Blue and it was pretty good but didn't leave me wowed... would love to try a Rev. 2, but there's not a lot around. Anyways, different strokes. I prefer the less compressed high gain amps and I tend to use less gain than most.

I got you. If you luv the TJ, you be going insane about the Rev2 :) Trust me!

What I love about the TJ is the usable Ch.1 Granted, I now own the PurpleMod TJ but have owned a stock TJ in the past as well. I liked the tones I was getting from the 1st channel. In the case of the PurpleMod, the 1st channel is awesome. So for this, I have to say it's a keeper over the Rev.Blue and Rev.2, as they're more a Channel 2 amp only. Beat me now for saying it, but their 1st channels aren't much to work with - amirite?!?! :dunno:

However, a Rev.2 is on my radar just to have.... As a back up Bogner

Right now though - Helios and Sheevs - it's coming down to crunch time!!

(Finally, Se7en....finally)

Agreed. The versatility of Channel 1 on the Twin Jet is a bonus for sure - definitely more of a hotrodded 800 sound with more low mids going on. It's really nice to have EQ controls for the power amp section and a 2nd channel that both sounds huge for chords, yet is greasy for leads - try and do that with a Recto. I'm sure every iteration of the Uberschall is amazing, but the TJ has an extra edge for me in being more open and having lots of clarity and tightness that I don't hear in the other models.

Mo, you've been talking about that Sheevs for how long now? :poke: The one I had was fun, but I felt it overlapped a bit too much with what I have already. The Helios seems like the tone I've had in my head for Reinhold to make...a Bogner voicing with more bite and crunch and just a straight, pure, gain channel.

The Rev 2 with KT88s is no joke. Less dry, more organic, and ballsy as fuck. Still not as playable as the Twin Jet, but I actually prefer the tone of the Rev 2 to the Twin Jet. I'm playing it a lot more than my Twin Jet these days.

I knew you would come around sooner or later,.............. welcome to the dark side.
