Twin Jet owners - Power tube preferences

I have the Valve Queen hunting for Penta KT88's so until I hear about them and if I can buy them or not my preamp experiments will have to wait. Regardless I am enjoying my TJ.

Sounds good man... And - absolute worst case scenario - go with some =C= 6550... I know they're outrageously expensive, but they'll last.

Had a good sesh on my TJ tonight - considering I have a good lot of other kickass outstanding amps, I just can't seem to kick the TJ from my go-to amp lately. It's my calling - she's changed with the re-tube - and I'm sure my ears have changed too. But that 5751 in V1 - to me - has made this amp into an incredibly articulate, focused, chewy fire breathing machine. Can't get enough of it. Yep - Ch.1 was flapping my pants tonight, but I tweaked Ch.2 just a bit - standard set up - set it and left it - and it cleaned house in the higher gain department. With incredible clarity. I just can't get over it.

Had to text Reza and tell him I'm just over-the-moon to be back with my TJ (amps still yet to be hammered 20thX, 20thSheevs, Rev2, Diezels, Mako......but yet, I plug into the TJ without a 2nd thought - my tone - my time - could not be happier with it!!)

I need something for V1 no matter what other tubes I get. The premium GL in V1 does well but I know there are other better tubes for that slot. You're using the JAN-GE 5751 right? Not the JJ. I may still try the TAD 7025 in V1. I'm on the fence with those 2 preamp tubes. There is also a NOS 5751 for $89.95 that supposedly excels in high gain amps.

I'll be going for Winged C 6550 very soon. I've been wanting to try those for some time now in the TJ plus a set of Winged C EL34 for my Splawn Nitro might prove interesting.

I may still try the TAD 7025 in V1. I'm on the fence with those 2 preamp tubes. There is also a NOS 5751 for $89.95 that supposedly excels in high gain amps.

Bear in mind the TAD7025 are just rebranded HG Chinese. The Gold Lion ECC83 is a Russian tube and I'm almost positive it's coming out of the same New Sensor factory that Tung Sol, Svetlana, and maybe even Sovtek come out of. I've looked at the GL side-by-side with an LPS and I swear it's the same tube.

Anyway - ya I'm using the Jan-GE for the 5751 - bear in mind - what I'm wanting out of my amp is different than the next guy. I just found the TJ with all C9s - while a complete high gain beast - had "too" much gain (and therefore compression) on tap to effectively mic it. The 5751 seemed to pull back the noise, hiss, gain and compression, but it also seemed to feed the signal chain with a more powerful cleaner signal. It may be rated slightly lower on the mu scale for current, but I think their tolerances are a lot tighter. A typical 12AX7 is 1.2mA but I've heard this can swing with 50% accuracy. a 5751 is around 1.0mA but my guess is it's definitely feeding the tonestack with 1.0mA of "clean" signal as opposed to maybe 0.8mA of crappy signal.

Hard to say. In my case it worked amazingly well. It's a keeper. YMMV.

That's why you got my attention with the 5751. When I dial in my settings on any amp I only use the amount of gain necessary, I never liked going any further than that. When you mention using the 5751 to pull back that's what I'm looking for. Like you I want to tap in to the TJ's tone while also cleaning up the signal as best I can. Just about all of my guitars have the high output pickups so throttling back somewhere lol is a very good idea like you stated.

All that might get sidelined anyway since I am happy with the TJ loaded up with GL's besides my VH4 will be here in a few days as well. Right now I probably should just play with what I have and focus on the new amp working that in to my rig.

My new replacements are coming in tomorrow I believe - JJ KT77s - for my Rev.2

If they suck I'm back to SED, TungSol or Svetlana powertubes.
