Folks,
How come when put my Gain of the Rev2 at 8 o'clock I still get a chunky thick gainy tone? I can't pass 11 o'clock tooooo much gain.
My friend has the same Amp but he does not get that gain at all at 8 o'clock.

You might have the original Uberschall without the gain taper.

You might have some hotter preamp tubes in there as well. 8 o'clock has a nice "thump" and crunch on mine!

My gain is always at 10 o'clock. it gets very saturated! My friend owns a Rev2 but it does not have that much gain at all between 7 o'clock and 11 o'clock.
I use a tung sol in the V1 and it sounds awesome, More gain smoother clearer.

What pickups are feeding the beast? Boosted with anything? The hotter the signal, the hotter the gain.

Using Emgs actvie. 85 on the bridge. Sounds fucking awesome. I don't use any pedal, straight to the head.
Bro, I got some serious gain that I don't have in the VH4 but, when you turn the machine loud it gets saturated and has some serious balls.
The Rev2 is brutal and juicy and it plays like a butter :)
Have you people tired the Rev2 with KT88 Power tubes?

Yep, I have. It cut out some of the organic quality of the Rev 2, but it made it tighter and more aggressive while still maintaining its dark tonality. Pretty sweet!

Really? Do I need to mod the amp or just swap the power tubes and bias them?

I got ya. I'm gonna stick with the El34s tho.
Charley does not recommend the El34L tho. Don't know why. he recommended El34s or KT77

I think they had some problems with a batch of E34Ls, but SLOGriff and I have them in ours with no issues.

Do you guys have tried the JJ Kt77 ??
Diezel use them on their amps.

Well, Bogners and Diezels use them.
Not always.

JJs are used in Bogners due to their slightly upscale branding and consistency but overall inexpensive pricetag.
Diezel used to use Ruby varieties, Peter Diezel has moved around from several brands when he scores big on longevity, quality, consistency and price.

If all amp manufacturers were loading their heads with top-grade LPS preamps (as Bogner once did) or =C='s as another manufacturer once did, or Gold Lions, man, the price upcharge would be ridiculous.

So it's a compromise - solid, decent, well priced - but not top drawer.

And you'll find HG Chinese/Shuguang in many high end amp preamp sockets. Why? Consistency, solid gain, decent noise floor, and cheap cheap cheap price

I think the mentality among high-end amp manufacturers is that if their customers are so discerning in their tone that they pay high prices for amps, they will likely shell out more money on their tubes as well, whether they came with the amp or not.

Well, they definitely should load their heads with top quality Tubes my friend. cuz the prices are already ridiculous with all do respect.
You can't have a Porsche with decent or cheap tire for the price they go for. it's the same principle.

That would be fine, but as Ventura said, expect the price of the amp to go up due to higher costs to the manufacturer. People usually end up swapping at least some tubes anyway, so what's the point of having really nice tubes that dictate a higher overall cost of the amp?
