Yep, the Twin Jet is sounding a bit harsh with the KT88s. I think I might buy myself another quad of JJ E34Ls to put in there instead.

Just tried the JJs in the TJ... man, what a difference! The mids are like the Winged Cs without the harsh highs. I'm liking them much better than KT88s.

that's really odd...I've been reading quite often that JJs are unrliable (only in American forums though).
I've been using JJs for the past 10 years in like 12 different amps...that's roughly 450 Tubes or something, and I had only 1 (ONE) JJ die on me.
it was a 12ax7 that went microphonic.

And AFAIK that's a common experience with JJ in Europe, they're really reliable tubes (perhaps not so much for CF stages, dunno).
the JJ supplier for the USA must be selling all the crap and junk that noone else would buy.

Now you know what all the hype is about. The Rev2 is the real deal.

Seriously, you should try the Tung-Sol RI in V1 and the JJ ECC803s in V4, does wonders for the clean channel. V1 also opens the gain channel a little to me.

I'm not sure... I think the ones that are bad have poorly made pins that don't form good connections with the socket.

I fixed the Twin Jet. Replaced the HT fuse and preamp tube V4 (for some odd reason). Put the 6550s back in there, and the JJs are on their way back to the seller tomorrow.

Don't give up on the JJs, every manufacturer has a tube go bad.

I'm not certain I didn't burn something on the tubes as well; I'm just trading them for another quad or maybe even some KT88s.

It's been a while since I've posted here, but do any other forum users have a problem with fizz on their Ubers? I know Lasse commented on it, but I was wondering what you guys' experiences with it are.

Volume is the key ime. I don't like the tone till the master is at 6, then it's awesome. The fatness explodes and the fizz rolls. Also neves are great for pres, they really are voiced perfect for the uber. I have APIs and Quad 8s but the neves are the way to go. The other thing that I do is blend the 57 and 421. The 57 alone can be too fizzy on any amp. Also get the mic off the center dust cap, putting a 57 to close to the center of a speaker can be abrasive. I have mostly used the Uber as a blending amp with my 71 Marshall and/or VH4. It has a spacial effect that the other amps don't have, a kind of wet 3D thang going on. I know Lasse went with KT88s which are way to hard and metal sounding for me but work great for his style and his clips are friggin awesome, they partially are why I got the rev 2 in the first place. Laura (Valve Queen) hand picked a full set of pre and power tubes for mine and Yontz out here biased it. EL34s. I think Rubys. Anyway, I love the amp, looks mean as fukk too.

Where are you typically putting your channel volume at?

I usually have everything somewhere are 6. Sometimes I will back the Treble off to 5 and sometimes hit the bass at 7. I have also been using with an Oversized Recto 4x12 and 8 ohms.

Hey leib10 I spent the day reamping a rock record. Used everyone; vh4, rec. marshall and uber. Thought about you and messed with the dials and found the best crunch was with presence on 8, treb 4, mid 6. The Uber was amazing, like 3D button.

Wow, that's really high presence! I don't think I've ever run it that high. Must try...

I have been saving and saving to splurge on a Rev2. I am almost there and can't wait to get my hands on one. Your sound clips just make my desire to own one of these that much worse. One more month lol!!
