I'm going to paraphrase Bruce here, and I hope he doesn't get mad. He said to me at the amp seminar, "When I created the IE-4 and Mica 100, I thought I had nailed it. I thought they sounded perfect. But there were always a few people who were like, 'can you tweak this to sound more like X?' That's why I had to create the modular series, so people could have Fender, Vox, Mesa, and Marshall in any combination in one box."
So, I'm saying, in the TOL stuff, everything is perfectly sync'ed and spec'ed to be EG 1,2,3,4. No compromises were made in coming up with exactly what Bruce thought would be perfect. I love my modulars, but the TOL's sound unique and legendary to my ears. The "3" side of the EG 3/4 doesn't really sound that close to channel 3 on the IE4 or TOL.
am I wrong?
