I have been wanting to try out the MC90 Black Shadow speakers in my cab for a while now, since hearing clips of them and hearing such great reviews from the HOM guys.

In the USA, the price direct from Boogies online store is $109 (approx £50).

When i emailed the Mesa Boogie distributor in the UK about the MC90's, they told me that the cost of them new is £155 per speaker

I can get like a quad of G12H30s or GB reissues brand new, for less than the price of 1 new MC90. What a fuckin ripoff.

I know of a local old scholl mesa 4x12 loaded with MC90s and EV12s, of course shipping would be about $2000

Exactly, and it seems like all the decent halfback cabs are in the USA

Theres only been a couple on ebay UK in the last year or so, and they always end up going for way more than they're worth OR they dont have the MC90s!

I was under the impression that the MC90 is the same as a celection CL80?

I'll never understand why they charge what the do bro but it probably has to do with the dollar to pound exchange rate.

With that said, all the companies are getting rediculous with the prices. There is no way in hell Id pay the $$$ they are asking for the Heritage speakers.

I tried to buy a 220v 2:90 for Jaakko to send to him and I could not do it, no way in hell. I explained I had a son going to school overseas and wanted his fav PA to jam with his Triax.....even that did not work

My son Jaakko is very sad :D

I know exactly what you mean Ralph, and theres no way im paying the kinda dough that theyre asking for the Heritages either. There is no way in hell that i could afford the MC90s new, a set of four is gonna cost around £600 :aww:

Its annoying as hell!

Haha!! :D Me and Kage tried something similar and it didnt work. I still ended up paying the equivalent of $600 import duties and tax  It as cool as hell though that Kage offered to try and help me, il always trust him with shipping anything in future!

It's probably worth pointing out that UK prices on anything are stupid. The cost of living over there is pretty ridiculous...I was over there a couple of months ago..and wanted to pick up a souvenir for my wife...while in Heathrow - and couldn't find anything worth picking up. A leather wallet was like $500!!??? For a wallet!!

Yeah that sounds about right for one here. Stuff is always expensive here and its getting more and more rediculous how the prices keep raising.

Its especially annoying in this situation though, because even if i wanted to buy them in the USA and ship the speakers over to here... id still end up paying a fortune. So basically my only option is to get ripped off completely, or go without.

Just buy a Celestion Classic Lead 80... almost the same speaker (just no vented polepiece for 90 watt power handling). You'll save yourself A LOT of dough!

Do they really sound the same though? I remember asking Ralph a while back and he said that the MC90 had a bit of a different sound to it that sounded better than the 80?

I'm not too up on all the voodoo speak on the speakers as to why with only a vented polepiece being the sole difference, there is a difference in sound but, yes, they do not sound EXACTLY the same... maybe 85%-90% the same. I have both types of speakers.

When I have been drinking Grey Goose the sweat from my hands make my strings sound better than if I was drinking Night Train.....this is very true.

Hmm..

It would be interesting to hear the CL80 and MC90 in comparison, just to hear the differences between them!

Try to buy from a speaker company that has a return policy. If you dislike them, you could always return them.

Correct. :)

I have both an 80 and a Boogie 90 in a 4x12 and much prefer the 80. The boogie is considerably brighter. This is with a classic marshall type overdrive. I used to sell Boogies and much preferred the 90's over V30's for high gaiN Boogie tones as they were tighter and cut better. In my experience the 80 and 90 sound quite different.
