Figured the shit would have got better. I have a sensitive ear. None of these digital devices have the subtle nuances you hear out of a real amp. Was gonna get a kemper but I figure digital is digital

"Sounded like shit"? I would beg to differ. Sensitive ear? Maybe but I doubt you're the only one on this forum who can make that claim - its littered with musicians and old engineers, or both like myself. At best, I think you may be at a point like me, where you are looking for something new, ultimately versatile, and different.

I still run a v.1.0 POD into one side of a Mesa 20/20 to warm it up, into a custom open back 212. I run a Vtwin rack into the other side of the 20/20, and layer those with the Zoom through a Fender Champion 600 at full bore (or near it). Finally I have a Marshall JCM 900 (one of the 5881 models) running at half power through a custom sealed-back 212, running as wide open as I can get it. As you might have guessed, I like options and texture, and I do understand tube nuance and feel. But the digi and SS elements of my rig are only supplemental, and add a breadth to the palette that wouldn't otherwise be there.

My 1st 2 pedals back in the early 90's.... weirdly I kinda miss them.

That Rocktek pedal, or a later version of it, was my first disto pedal as well. I got a DOD Juice Box (interesting OD pedal, and wish I still worked) - and I sat it next to it in the pedal board and I guess it was a "nunc dimittis" kind of thing, because it just quit working.

I'm still using my 1987 Roland GP8 - only had to change the battery in it once and had to buy a new cable for the FC100 a few years back -

I am thinking that a BOSS NS-2 Noise Gate would be good to use with this as well - although the background noise from the GP8 is variable - not all the time -

There are two types of multi-fx:
-those using pre-allocated power to each efx, even when you don't use them
-those using their power ONLY for what you need, that is the efx you load... in some different variations

the first type sucks... and 99% of what you discuss here belong to that "class"
the second type is the good one... but apparently most of you don't get to use them...
...and particularly in pedalboard format... they really suck big time!

I wonder if this is one of the units responsbile for making 80s chorus so "80s-sounding" in the first place?

Not even conceptually close to what made that chorus sound big.
