Been a bit since I shipped a guitar. $169 with insurance to ship from NY to Alabama. As I'm walking out the door, the guy chases me down and says "My bad! We need to repack the guitar because of the declared value, otherwise the insurance won't pay of something happens.." Seriously? Then WHY THE FUCK am i paying for insurance???? You want me to spend MORE MONEY on top of $169? Fuck that! Between the IRS/Reverb Fees, and now shipping bullshit it will now be local deals.

Use Pirate Ship. I just tried it recently for shipping a quad of tubes. Direct through UPS it was $79 for 2nd day air. Using Pirate Ship it was $24 for the exact same UPS 2nd day. Huge difference.

Prices on everything has skyrocketed. Some parts I buy for amps have MORE than doubled in cost. Places like UPS aren't going to just absorb those costs. They will pass them on to you, the consumer, and maintain their profit levels.

I was the buyer as he had something in stock no one else did. We shipped 2 days after Christmas during new year holiday return/rush chaos, which is why we wanted at most 2 days in transit, and it was still only $24. The box arrived fine as did the tubes.

Always ship from a FedEx or UPS hub. Those “stores” are often independently owned and have their own insurance and packing policies that are way more conservative than UPS or FedEx.

I have heard good things using pirate ship. A buddy of mine uses them all the time. I am pretty much done shipping stuff

Yeah shipping rates are crazy right now. Does anyone know when "holiday rates" for UPS/Fedex/USPS return to normal? I believe they extend well into January.

Pack it yourself next time and it’ll be much cheaper than $168.

Yeah, fuck those stores. They bend you over and break it off in you.

Also, they typically do a half-assed packing job.
Last guitar I shipped was $86. I have my own UPS account and packed it myself. All I did was take it to work and UPS took it with our outgoing shipments. Fuck, the UPS store will charge you $40+ FOR A BOX.

those local stores seem to be a amazon return depot now... 6 people in line ahead of me, all amazon returns. The prices for someone like me who wants to ship something they sold was astronomical. I will go to the hub next time... I sell very little these days

I get 62% off with my account. It cost me $112.00 to send a 25# audio preamp to Canada fully insured for 1900. Shipping a guitar across the country insured for 3K was 60 bucks. You should call them and ask them if they still have the deal through worldwide express but I think it has to be a business account

I just shipped an LP to a location 9 hours away. Packed myself and insured for $2,000. Cost $168 with UPS. The guy that shipped an LP to me had a cost of $86 using ShipNerd.
