Why does Covid scare you from buying a Solar?
They seemed to have a lot of QC issues once covid hit. I think they have it sorted out now but it still makes me a little nervous. The brand label was peeling off of a lot of peoples guitars and fretboards were cracking shortly after purchase. If they had a U.S. distributor with a good return policy I would grab one without hesitation. If I got one and it had QC issues I would have to pay to send it back to Spain or they give you a partial refund. That's a lot of hassle imho

I have owned 4 Solar and they were all great but that was before covid.

Find an older San Dimas Jackson Rhoads, thank me later.
Ha not at the price he's looking. Not even a student model. Had a few Dimas era guitars, '84 RR hardtail was cream of the crop!

I have an 85 Rhoads that I paid $550 for back in the day (used in the 90s), I know they're WAY more cash now, but you totally get what you pay for in this instance. True custom shop, because ALL Jacksons were back then.

I new a guy that played an Ibanez V when I was a kid. It was really thick on the body but it sounded chunky af. I was hoping someone would mention the model
Was it a Rocket Roll II? I have one from 82' or 83'. They are chunky af alright!!!!! Super high quality.

Look for the Edwards Alexi as they have the proper wing lengths. The LTD’s have the derpy big bottom one.

The old RR5’s and Japanese RR24’s are killer if you can find one. Also agree on the Jackson Stars. Really nice stuff.

I wouldn't go solar. They are cool looking, and I got lucky with an origional run guitar, but my two buddies got second run and had problems. I have met others that have problems. They are not well made. They are just like the rest of the companies that make in korea or indonesia except the return process is a bitch since they are not a household name. I got lucky with an indonesian made jackson that was way better than the solar imo.

I love my jackson rhoads but if you are wary of the custom shop, i get it. Mine didn't come with some of the specifications i asked for.., I just loved it so much when it came that i didn't care.
The second best v I ever had was a KXK. I highly recommend getting one of those. That thing was badass. I would still have it, but I gotta let other people have cool shit too.

These are 2 good ones! ESP LTD DV8r and Jackson Kevin Bonds. The ESP I've owned longer and is hands down my favorite playing and tone guitar that I have ever owned and my list is long and pricey lol! Used to find these for $400-$600 all day but haven't seen many pop up much. It plays well out of it's price range.
The Jackson Kevin Bond is newer to me. It was on my bucket list years ago when I was a Jackson Custom Shop whore. Sadly I parted ways with Jackson for various reasons but missed the feel of their ebony boards so I jumped at the chance to snag the Kevin locally. Glad I did, Stellar heavy duty feeling and the tone is just murderous. I keep both in standard E and they are thrash machines!
Several good sub $1200 guitars out there on the used market. Just gotta kick over a lot rocks until you find one.

That Kevin Bonds is the shit! I loved the fine tuners at the bridge. I actually had one years ago and I sold it. That was one of the few guitars that I regret selling. I really want to find the one with the green sides! That was a thrash master!

Yeah the LTD Arrow has that weird top fin too. I don't know I just can't deal with that.

As far as price range I'm wanting to stay under 2k. I'm just at the planning phase now and I'm planning on pulling the trigger q3 of this year after my Chubtone and Mayones Duvell arrive.

I wonder if Chubtone has done any V's? I wasn't expecting them to do an explorer until someone here mentioned they were doing them

Hey guys,
I have a V on my wish list for after my Explorer shows up and I was looking for a recommendation.

I like the Solar v shape and have loved the Solar I've owned but since covid I'm scared to buy another one.

Being a Rhoads fan I love the Rhoads shape and Jackson neck. One thing I worry about is QC again plus I would like to have SS frets if I bought new.

I do not like the LTD Arrow with the weird shape on the fin but didn't LTD make another V that was shaped like a Rhoads? I know the Alexi Laiho models are like this but I don't like the cosmetics. Is there a model I could look for on the used market?

I do not like the Balaguer V and I'm looking for something more pointy than the standard gibson. Are there any others you guys could recommend? I would prefer to keep it around a 1000 but I'm not opposed to paying more for something if it checks all my usual boxes.
King V.

But, nothing beats a Gibson V in my book. Owned 3.

Might behoove you to look at some Dean USA.. Yeah, the GOOD ones get pricey, but it's edgier than a Gibson, and you might find some seriously nice finishes, excellent build, and every bit nicer than regular Gibsons any day. I just never found one I could afford.

This is mine. If you can find one, grab a VBT700.

Lucky bastard. Those are few and far between. I wish they'd revamp the Destroyer and tap into the $1399-ish market with ESP Deluxe/Jackson Pro Series/Charvel Pro Mod type pick-up and hardware upgrades, and neck-thru. I'll take a white one with black/cream binding, black tonepros hardware, Gotoh locking tuners, and Duncan Distortions, please...Fishman Fluence Moderns?

I still really like my epiphone brent hinds. Big chunky neck with a bit, but not a lot, of dive. Overall very light and comfy to play.
Agreed, I got one a month ago and love it! It’s a beauty. I’ve always avoided thicker necks…all my LP’s are 60’s neck profiles. The neck on the b.hinds doesn’t bother me at all it feels and plays great.
