v30 4x12 advice

I have an avatar classic with I assume hellatone v30’s. It’s one of my all time favorite cabs. I’m shocked by how good this cab sounds. I have a Marshall mode 4 with those special v30’s they used and the avatar shits all over it. The Marshall is just dark…. I actually prefer the sound of 8ohm cabs to 16….
You know what kills me? Sold some Hellatone speakers because I thought they didn't sound good at the time. I was totally wrong - it was the turd of an amp called the Grandmeister 40 that was the issue. What an absolute trash sounding amp. Live and learn.

I have not opened it up to look but I assume that they are the hellatones. It’s also in a roadcase as well. I always wanted a mode 4 cab but it just doesn’t sound good at all. Very disappointing. I have tried it with three different amps and it just doesn’t sound good.

I've had quite a few Mesas, both traditional/standard, and a Rivera, Bogner V30 cabs. The Rivera was surprisingly spot on to the Mesa Traditional. The Bogner had a more vintage-ey tone, still great though. Any of those 3 will sound great.

These days I play my 80s Marshall Vintage cabs most, and they are the first version V30, sound like a cross between a G12 65 and a Mesa V30.

Does anyone have experience between the 2x12 and 4x12 rectos? Interesting because I understand part of the Mesa formula is the 8ohm v30s. So do the 2x12's sound more like a marshall or other 16ohm v30 loaded cab?

Changing the wiring in the mesa changed the sound?
Yes, dear God! The input jack is a catastrophe waiting to happen. The whole load goes through a 🖊 ball sized contact that closes when you plug in the speaker cable. Going from that and what appears to be 16-18 gauge wire to 238 strand Marshall Sound Runner 10 gauge like Bogner, then from twin 4 ohm parallel vertical 2x12’s in series at the jack closing to two series 16 ohm horizontal 2x12’s in parallel at the jack is almost night and day. Every new Mesa should come with that option, it’s a crying shame they don’t do it. I might have to lobby them. It’s that vital.

I’ve got two 2005 Mesa 16 ohm T4416 V30’s in a 2x12 in parallel in the Zinky cab and they are brighter and deeper sounding, almost kind of harsh but more musical than 93 an 97 “UK” V30’s I had.
