I am contemplating canceling my order for the Fryette Fatbottom cabs and getting 2 of Brad's Marshall HW cabs. They are loaded with G12H30's which I have never used before. Are these supposed to be reissues of the Balckback 30's? I used an early 70's cab once a long time ago that had those loaded in it and I really liked it. However, I have been using V30's for 10 years exclusively and have gotten my tone happening through those speakers. I play mainly modern metal (see clips) and also classic rock. Will these speakers do both? Do they stay tight at high volumes? If I get these cabs I will keep my 1960BVs so I could potentially put the V30's in the HW cabs. I am not a fan of mixing speakers in cabs so that won't be an option for me. Any of you guys that have G12H30 experience please let me know about those speakers.

Just found this...not sure that I dig the H30's...the V30's just sound "right" to me.

You need to hear them live bro, seriously. I have used both and for me the g12h30 just works better no matter what amp head I throw at them.

Hey turd,

I've got a G12H30 that you can borrow if you wanna check it out for yourself and not worry about gathering opinions. Just let me know duder.

Ralph would be a good source for your question, I have an h30 RL cab and it is great for taming heavy mids amps but IMO do not sound as modern as the v30s. I like having the h30s for another option tone wise and they sound great with the boogies as well as the JVM.

As with anything else, it depends on the amp you use with it and the cab the speakers are loaded in. I love h30's and think they sounded like ass in that video lol :D
Another thing to take into consideration is that the heritage series h30 and the 70th anniversary speakers sound nothing alike. I'm not sure what's loaded in the hw cabs?

I am pretty sure these are the H30's and not the 70th anny's.

Do they stay tight at loud volumes, Ralph? I like the smooth highs of the H30, but they sound a bit tubby in that vid and we can have none of that!  I know, it's just a youtube vid...

They do stay tight at loud volumes but it depends on what amp you are using! what I mean is h30's wouldn't be my first pick if you were cranking a recto through it with the bass up high lol :D
I had the Cameron CCV and CCM on 10 through them with no problem. The h30's work really well with Marshall based amps IMHO. I dig them with the boogie MKIV to but I don't play at really loud volume with that amp.

All the amps that I would be using (JVM, Blackmore, Fortin) are super tight and sound nothing like a recto or any boogie so maybe these speakers would work. Are these supposed to be a RI of the Blackback 30's from the early 70's? Because I really like those speakers and have heard them in person.

That's too bad, because they do sound fantastic together!

I have the 70th anniversary H30's, and prefer them to the vintage 30's, (if I was only going with one), but together they are the shiznit!

Bigger bottom end / low mid's on the H30's.

For the amps you have I would recommend the Vintage 30's of the two. I really like my anni G12H30's in an opened back Vox 212, but I don't like that cab with my mesa mark IV or marshall 2553. The G12H30's in general will be better for classic rock and V30's for more modern rock/metal. I think they mix well, its too bad you are not willing to do that....

Yeah, just not into mixing speaks in a cab...standing in front of the cab sounds "uneven" to me.

Maybe before I buy a whole cab I will just borrow Ans's G12H30 and stick it in my Splawn 212 that has 2 V30's in it. That way I may be a convert to the speaker mixing thing.

H30's have a lot of lows, low mids and highs. The mids and upper mids are pretty scooped out...playing with the band the sound disappeared. I can see why they were bass speakers. Very confusing speakers.....

Agreed but they still tend to honk real bad. Instead of the cool Greenback honk, H30s have that annoying "Bad to the bone" honk

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but what would you recommend to blend with a V30? I'm getting a little bored of the H30 lately...was also considering going all V30's....

I don't really hear the honk in the G12H30's. With the somewhat scooped midrange they do pair up with a mid/uppper mid heavey amp like a Vox. I really like them personally, but they sure don't work with all my amps.

I have decided to stick to the Fryette cabs. I got such an amazing deal on them ($869/ea. shipped brand new) and I loved the way they sounded when I tried one out. Plus the cab construction seems to be very top notch. :2thumbsup:

The G12H30's seem maybe too smooth (if that is possible  ) for me...I like the aggressiveness of the V30, although I would like to try out a 412 with all H30s if given the chance. They pair up excellently with the amps that I currently own and mine are 10 years old and nicely broken in. There is a good chance I will go completely ridiculous and run all 4 (2 Marshall 1960BVs, 2 Fryette Fatbottoms) live at some point for the absolute way too much award. :rawk:

I do w/ the MKIII Coli, and it LOVES those H30's. I got them on your recommendation and haven't looked back since. You are right... (As usual) they LOVE Marshall based amps.
