So I guess the answer is:

EG3/4 if you want closer to his Marshall / TOL tone
EG5 if you want closer to his Bogner XTC tone

And dont forget your Eventide ultra-harmonizer! :D

I remember about 10 years ago when Eventide started advertising heavily with Vai and EVERYONE wanted an H3000 so they could sound like Steve.

You could give me 10 Eventides and I still wouldnt sound like Steve! I bet Id still sound like a Pentatonic hack!

Also.....don't forget to try different speaker combos.....the EG5 sounds very different with V30's, Weber 1225's and Heritage GB's.....

Thanks

How close will the tourmaster come to those tones?

I havent actually played a Tourmaster but Ive heard they are more American and modern sounding in the high gain channels. Maybe someone who has one will chime in.

hi,
i also love the vai tones on alien love secrets, especially the lead tone from tender surrender!
I've got the EG3/4, and i really, really love it. but it doesn't quite nail that lead tone.
As far as i know he played a Bogner Ecstasy. So know my question, which module would do that best?
I'm thinking of either the MHG or the EG5, but i'm afraid that the higher mid voicing on the EG5 is a little to bright sounding for that specific tone. Is the MHG more Bogner and the EG5 more Soldano?
What do you suggest?
Also, what about the Randall XTC module? All clips i heard were very harsh sounding and more in a metal rythm type of sound.
Thanx for the help, and sorry for my bad english ;) !
