VH4 crackling noise when on - HELP!! -solved-

I bought the head used, but then had to get it retubed with KT77s because one of the tube fuses blew.

I took it into the local reputable amp tech. He looked at it and told me that the trim pot went the same time the fuse blew, so he replaced it. Apparently, he replaced it incorrectly per my discussions with MARK2C.

BTW MARK2C IS THE MAN!!!!! ABSOLUTELY AWESOME GUY!!!! I would like to thank him for all the help he gave me today regarding my amp.

Hopefully I can get things fixed before my gig tomorrow night.

Any time !!! We are a brotherhood of Diezel owners and we stick together. Peter has done a lot for me and I am always happy to do what I can.

Simply try to replace tubes ;)

If you turn the master down and the noise is still there
replace power tubes or phase inverter.
If the noise dissappears replace preamp tubes.

Best,
Peter

Peter,

The KT77's were installed about a month ago. I also tried replacing individual preamp tubes and the noise is still there.

New tubes can be bad. I see it every day.

That could be. The tech did say he checked them before installing them to make sure they were fine. We'll see. He has the amp now and maybe the tubes went bad since then.

Regarding the resistors he installed. After talking to him this morning, he was just following the instructions on page 34-35 of the service manual. I think those instructions are for a VH4(S) not a VH4.

Peter was right (of course!).

I took the amp to my tech and he said the KT77s were bad. I had him put the EL34s from my Blackstar in there so I can make it through the gig. They actually sound pretty good for Svetlana's.
Now I have to get a refund on the KT77s.

The gig was awesome and the VH4 ROCKED!!!!

Good advice here except im not sure you'd want to be sticking a jewelers pick in pin 3 without discharging the caps first...unless you want to discharge them the fast way that is. :aww:
