Does anyone use the VH4 in small bar situations or will it be too loud ?I,m in a 3 piece band and need a thick sound, Thanks...

Regular bar size, not rock clubs, sometimes they gotta move pool tables, places like that,I guess it,s about lower volumes and still sounding big and thick,Do the master volumes on the VH4 and the Herbert differ in their effectiveness as far as lowering stage volume and remaining thick?

Yes, they are very different. Herbert is all around great at pretty much any volume, as long as you squeeze it enough to get the mean voice out of it. Perfect for bars, clubs, playing in a house, pretty much any situation. Combined with an EVM12L is a definite winner; Herbert & EVM12L are meant to be played together.
VH4 needs to get loud when played as a single amp to get a really good tone out of it. It wouldn't be the best choice for little bars IMO, at least not for the little bars I know around here. Now combined with another amp it's a killer even at low volumes.

I would suggest the 50w Einstein. I have a Herbert & Einy & the Einstein is the perfect amp for club gigs. You can turn it up to the "sweet spot" without being to loud yet still get an incredibly fat tone!

My 100W Einstein is perfect for about anything really: Big stages, Small clubs, and even Church. Even though I'm WAYYY quiet during church the tone is great...that's what I love about Diezels.

I actually usually never touch the volume knob that much when switching from bigger stages to small clubs...since I can get great tone micing my amp a certain way, having less stage volume is good for the audience's point of view. I can still stand in front of it and hear that raw tone anyway!

I don't have any live experience w/ the VH4, but I would like to assume the capabilities are the same. Can't say for sure though...

I use mine all the time in anything from very small bars to the large rooms/small concert venue clubs and it always seems to work great at just about any volume. Just mike it right and get a good cab.
Of course it ALWAYS sounds better loud  but dam!! this thing will make you deaf if you don't watch it. :scared:

+1

we use 2 vh4 full stacks (along with a few other devistatingly loud amps) and sonically annihilate everyone in the place no matter how big it is... METAL!!!

of course, we also hand out ear plugs at the front of the stage and our merch tables...

That's a great idea on the earplugs. I think there's a lot to be said for feeling the music in addition to playing and listening.

I don't like my Triple Rectifier because it sounds any better than something with less wattage; I like it because when I hit a chord, even if I were deaf, I know it.

I feel bad for the people who listen to you

Thanks for all the feedback,Now I,m wondering if at small bar volume levels will the VH4 sound thicker than the Einstein ,seeing as how you can turn the master higher on the 50 watt Einstein,I.m looking for a thick sound with a big low end, It's my thought that the Vh4 will still sound bigger in a 3 piece band but I don,t have first hand knowledge,Thanks

Agreed. I use my Einstein pretty much everywhere. Large, small gigs, etc. It works great in any situation.

You can definitely do that with an Einstein. It doesn't take much on the master for these to sound incredible. If you get the chance, definitely try one out; I doubt you'll be disappointed!

i play small clubs with my vh4, usually with a 2x12 vht cab, sometines with my 4x12 fs - 4 channels, controllable tone at all volumes, i will never get a chance to play this thing at 11 anyway, it is too good a solution for noise pollution (i just made that up).

For the additional two tubes and 50 watts of headroom, go with the 100 watt bro. This is from where your thick will come. My VH4 goes to any size venue.

I hate to say it but all the amps can pull off what you need....it just comes down to flavor. I would not hesitate with any of them in a small bar situation. If you are that concerned get the Einstein Combo....

All the amps sound thick at lower volumes. The Einstein 100 could pull it off easily. The VH4 is totally capable as well as the Herbert.

oh yeah, I have my Einstein 50w and my Vh4 in my room (only playing there for now) and both sound rich and great.....Obviously if you open 'em up they'll sound even better, but I have no problems getting them to sound good in my b.room.

You could also try an iso cabinet. That'd allow you to crank the amp as much as the speaker can take AND your sound guy will love you for it. It's quite frustrating to try and dial in a good overall sound when all you hear is a full stack going berserk.
