Hey guys (:

i heard that Killswitch Engage used the vh4 for their new album, but im not sure if they mixed it with other amps  but i think so  .

So my question is how close can you match your sound to their? I know there are lots of factors, but im really interested in that point :).

The reason im asking is that my band has a really KSE touched tone  .

thank you :)

P.S: And how are the pinch harmonics on the VH4? :D

KSE changes amps all the time. I wouldn't buy an amp they are playing just to get their tones. I know they use Splawn Nitros too. PM guitarman967 on Harmony Central. He takes lessons from one of the guys in KSE. He could fill you in on their current rig.

They use a bunch of stuff, including Framus dragons and cobras. Pretty hard to get a studio produced sound from an amp alone.

The mighty "how are pinch harmonics with a VH4..." question. There was a thread on this earlier with some drastically varying opinions. I owned a VH4 and now own a new VH4S, and all I can say is, I rip 'em out like nobody's business (hell, I can pull 'em off with an unplugged ax for that matter). I use LPC's and ESP's.

It rips.

I think with some decent post production (studio) touch ups, you'll be able to attain this KSE tone you're seeking. On stage? Hard to say - depends what you're running and cabinets will make a big difference to boot. But all I do know is live the VH4 will melt the first 10 rows' faces

V.

I think you can get really close if you find the right guitar/pickup/speaker with it. You're probably gonna be defaulting on channel 4. You may or may not need an EQ in the serial loop to boost some 500hz and extra highs. I could definitely show you that it can be done if you happen to live around here. In other words if you get a VH4 & can't get it sounding like that, don't blame the amp.

No i wouldn't buy an amp, because the got one ;)

It's just the fact that im really fallin in love with the diezel amps and i cant decide between the herbert and the vh4

Im really into these KSE stuff but that can change, therefore i search an amp for a long long time

But im a bit confused is the herbert so much more brutal than the vh4??

They used VH4 plus Splawn Nitro to overdub some of the parts. I read it in Guitar World interview. ;)

I think the main difference between a Herbert and VH4 is that a VH4 is more classic voiced compared to the modern Herbert. Both can sound pretty brutal. ;)

It would be quiete cool if someone could make a vid of the vh4 or the herbert in a drop tuning (for example drop c)
I know on youtube are a few droped videos for the herbert but it would be awesome to compare the amps :)

thank you

KSE have used so many different amps live and in the studio. Guess what, they always manage to get pretty much the same sound of them all... Rectifier, Splawn Nitro, Triamp MKII, Framus Cobra, Framus Dragon, Soldano SLO100, Diezel VH4, and probably a lot more. No matter what amp they use, they still sound the same. You could probably go with any modern-voiced, high gain amp and as long as you're tuned down a step and using an EMG 85 in the bridge of your guitar, you'll get pretty much the same sound.

I've recorded a video in the past with my Jackson, tuned down, with EMG 85 and, while it was recorded with my computer's built-in camera, it doesn't sound all that bad. I'm not the best player out there, but you'll get the idea I guess...

KSE is currently using splawn nitro's live. The new album was The VH4 for rythym's and The nitro for leads, a tiny terror was also used for some overdubs.

Straight from the horses mouth. I'm trying to get Joel to give up his settings, well see.

My band plays in drop C. Our newer songs were recorded using my VH4. Hope this helps with your comparison.

What do you guys think about getting next to their tone with a Herbert?
I am more interested in Adam D.'s tone, Joels' is too dark for my taste...

Here is a vid where you can hear their different sounds an how they blend together perfectly:

That tone is much better than what they usually present during those instructional videos. They usually use Spiders or something for Guitar World stuff. And, I prefer Joel's tone to Adam's.

I have the VH4 and it can get about as BRUTAL as you want.
the Voice of the Herbert seems that its more ment for metal but I am not sure how much more METAL it can get?
I was playing some drop D stuff on the VH4 and it was CHUG CHUG heaven.
Super clear and defined. But I know the Herbie is more Metal then the VH4.......but no worries..
the VH4 can get you all the pinch Harmonics needed with no boost at all.

Actually the Nitros are boosted with a TS808... very little of the new CD is VH4.
