mine's 08. However have you noticed that the older Vh4's before say 05 sound brighter?
I've never played a VH4 made before 05, so I can't comment on that. I've heard that there had been some changes.

The latest VH4 is more saturated and not that extremely unforgiving i used to be. Also Ch.2 and 3 have a more gain at the same settings. Especially on Ch.2 it is very present. No I can go from slightly crunchy clean to almost full high gain Ch.3 type of rhythm tone. Before it was clean to crunch.
I like the newest version a lot better. It's a bit easier to play and the sound is bigger in my opinion. And yes, it feel like it is a tad darker but I think it actually isn't really darker. The impression comes from the bigger and more saturated low end. Overall I'm very happy that Peter did the update and I'm really digging the SED EL34

My VH4 is a '07 (bought in October) and I really really love its sound (CH3 makes weired things in my pants... hmmm....like a woman would...you see? )but I can't compare with an earlier or a latest version 'cause I've never played on another VH4 than mine, but when it's time to change the tubes I really want to keep the current sound....so what about my tubes?
