VH4 Rocks!!!!!!!!!! & my comparison to Herbert

mine's 08. However have you noticed that the older Vh4's before say 05 sound brighter?

I've never played a VH4 made before 05, so I can't comment on that. I've heard that there had been some changes.

I have a 2001 VH4 that Peter updated to the newest version recently. In comparison the 2001 Version has less gain in Ch. 2 and 3 and is a lot more stiff. The latest VH4 is more saturated and not that extremely unforgiving i used to be. Also Ch.2 and 3 have a more gain at the same settings. Especially on Ch.2 it is very present. No I can go from slightly crunchy clean to almost full high gain Ch.3 type of rhythm tone. Before it was clean to crunch.
I like the newest version a lot better. It's a bit easier to play and the sound is bigger in my opinion. And yes, it feel like it is a tad darker but I think it actually isn't really darker. The impression comes from the bigger and more saturated low end. Overall I'm very happy that Peter did the update and I'm really digging the SED EL34

Thank Jaymz - was the mod a resistor or a chip change? the reason I ask was because I spoke with Chris Impelliteri in January 2008 and he mentioned that both he and Warren DeMartini had changes to their VH4-Ch4 to "open it up" (less compressed). It sounds like the update mod you had was completely different.

I don't really know what Peter actually did. He told me that there are quite some difference besides the new SED tubes and since I don't have any deeper knowledge about amp technology I didn't ask any further questions.

something to be said for "let the guy do his job" (and ask questions later!)
no worries - maybe Peter D or Olaf can shed some light on our mystery! :)

I would buy a single channel head that was just VH4 channel 2..Its that good of a channel. I can get virtually any sound from it.. Makes your head spin when you realize you have 3 more channels

are '07 VH4's set with thoses SED tubes?

My VH4 is a '07 (bought in October) and I really really love its sound        (CH3 makes weired things in my pants... hmmm....like a woman would...you see? :D )but I can't compare with an earlier or a latest version 'cause I've never played on another VH4 than mine, but when it's time to change the tubes I really want to keep the current sound....so what about my tubes?

ok....cool.... thanx for this very fast answer.....and by the way, juste for information, do you what are the preamp tubes....?

I've been really digging classic 57s with VH4 the last few days.

I found something amazing on channel 4 with gain from 7-8. Sounds like cameron modded marshall, very cool

Channel 3 really clears out for recording with gain about 9-10 & comes really forward in the mix in comparison to channel 2.

I'm really pleased with feedback sound of this amp, it doesn't squeal & annoy with high frequencies like Herbert.
