I think you will find several high end, high gain amps that replicate the Herbie. Its a great and versatile amp on its own, but it really has no organic tone that says this is a Diezel. I find the VH4 to be more representative and original in tone. All channels are usable and unique. I own both.

I agree 100% for the first part: vh4 versatility,unique voice,very true.
But i think IMHO that if VH4 is for sure is a milestone amp making it the only Diezel trademark tone is a little riductive for the Diezel itself..sounds like there is no evolution.
Just my 2 cents.

For sure Herbert ch2+ and ch3 with midcut are more more aggressive and modern than VH4 ch3/4 but:
-Violence,brOOtalz etc (like heavenly,sweet sounds) comes out from fingers..amps,guitars,PU, low tunings help but no sobstitute for creativity,inspiration and technique.

I'm gonna wait man. I have the new 20thA XTC and cab arriving sometime next week. Probably the week after with customs and shit. I'll see how that goes over. Secondly, I've spent some serious time on the VH4S these past couple nights (weeks) and playin' it as if I was about to trade it in or up. I couldn't find ANY reason to do so. Yes, the Herb's probably got more going with the broots and so forth, but the V has my tone - and to give that up, or to blow another $5000 on another full rig seems to me, right now with an inbound Bogner rig, not smart.

I really love my V. It's the sound that's in my head - and although I think GAS gets the better of me, I just need to crank it for a day or two and once again, realize that somewhere between Channel 1 and 4, somewhere on the gain, presence, depth and the rest, my tone always gets discovered - and that is a head worth my keeping and revering. I'll grab a Herb when the price is right, but I can't see it taking over my V.

I thought EXACTLY the way you do. Didnt want to give up the VH4S either.....LOVED IT(Still do)
I thought the Herbert was going to excell ONLY IN THE BRUTAL dept...
I eat my words. The Herbert can do the Brootz easily. But...
Channel 2 is where it dropped my jaw.
The rock tones coming out of the Herbert to me at least....are as equal if not BETTER than what I was getting from the VH4S. That +/- switch is PERFECT for going from Classic rock....to Metallica land.
And the sound from this amp is like everyone describes..."hi-fi" sounding.
Dream come true for me.
I was surprised at the similiarity of how close I can get to some of my Favorite VH4 tones...THAT IS A GOOD THING!! Yet...........flick the mid cut on....or jump to the 3rd channel....all hell breaks loose.
I am only BARELY getting into this amp.....and I cant stop smiling!
I played one in the local music store before buying....sounded excellent.
But I really didnt get to "hear it" till I got one home and cranked it up.
The GAS will eat you alive till you get one. I know that was the case for me. Kept saying..."My VH4S is PERFECT and I dont need anything but this...." And it is a perfect amp. But there is something so KICK ASS about this Herbert....
Not poking fun here......or flaming your GAS....but I know where you are coming from with the VH4S.......
I was SUPER HESITANT to let it go for the Herbert. But I cant afford more than one amp at the moment.
I made the right choice.
