I had an Intellifex and could not get enough volume in the loop either. (different amp, unpowered loop) IMO, Intellifex needs a bigger preamp internally.

Ok quick review time...

Ch.1
Actually much nicer than I thought it might be. It's not gonna outshine your typical Fender combo but it's still pretty good. Very good for a channel switcher.

Ch.2
Marshall-esq like I was told it would be. Not exactly like a Marshall but in that vein. Not enough gain for lead work but does sound good with my Keeley SD-1. Cool but Ch. 3 is my favorite channel

Ch.3
This channel kills!!! I spent about 15 minutes trying to balance out what I wanted tone and feel wise without dialing into to beehive territory. Gobs of gain. I do hear what people mean when the make comparisons to the Bogner XTC. Not as dark or loose as the Bogner but it does have that same sort of vibe to it. This is a fun channel to play through.

Again very limited time with the amp. Other than my effect loop or processor issue, I'm pretty happy with this amp.

Very sorry for my ignorance but what amp is this again?

Haven't been following up on your purchase threads if there were any :scared:

My former Cameron Jose loop barely drove the Intellifex, couldn't get an LED reading at all, however, many other amps have no problem so it may be an effects loop issue, or it's just designed for pedals?

I had the same problem with the Intellifex and also my Roland SDE-3000 back in the day with amps that had no way to adjust the signal from the loop. That is why I like active effects loops. I've never played an amp with one of those where I couldn't get enough signal to my rack effects...

ALL Brown truck threads MUST have this pic somewhere within

By the way I have read this thread twice and still have no fuckin clue what you have coming this time (you amp whore you) :D

Despite the fact that it has no send/return controls, it should be super easy to use something in the loop. I have an Xpression and a G Major, and both units get plenty of input from my 5153. Hopefully this is something easy to clear up.

Ok gents I e-mailed Jim Chowning at Rocktron. Here was his reply...
This is normal with this amp it has a very, very low level thru the loop. Set the Intellifex in the -10dB setting and turn the input level knob all the way up. Bring up the output level which may need to be max as well. You may still not be able to get the input metering to flash but this is all you can do with this low a level.

So I did what he recommended. Although the LEDs still do not light up on the Intellifex, there is no difference in volume or tone when I engage the FX loop off and on so I think I'm good to go. This amp is pretty damn nice. The crunch channel boosted is very cool but the 3rd channel on this amp just rips. Everything from 80's metal on up is in this channel. It's not as tight as some of the more modern high gainers but it's far from flubby. Harmonics scream on this channel. Killer lead tone!!!! Like I said it's not exactly like a Bogner XTC but there is a similar something in the tone. I think if you like the XTCs Red channel you may very well like the 5153s Red channel. The clean is super sweet IMO. Later I hope to try my Taylor 914 through it with some chorus.

I bet you could easily fix this problem with a quick resistor change to the 5153...

I'm not modding this amp. That kills resale and we all know how I go through amps. Besides the Intellifex sounds fine now. I think this loop would probably work perfect for pedals so if need be I'll nab a few.

That's cool you like it. I really want to try one of these out someday.

Strange though they would design the loop that way. Bummer actually. Guess that makes me like my Cameron even more where Mark put a knob to adjust the loop level.

I think it sounds transparent. If I had a new processor or if I just used pedals I probably would have never mentioned much about the loop. I't still better than the JVM or Vintage Modern's loop.

I'm really glad you're liking the amp Jim, especially after telling you that you would. I allways worry when somebody asks me about an amp and I praise it, they get it, and then........ :scared: :D

That red channel does scream.

Jason I think this amp rocks! Funny thing is everyone seems to love Ch 2. Yeah it is very cool but I'm actually impressed with the clean and high gain channels more. Thats not to say I won't use Ch2 because I'm sure it'll get used plenty.
