Warmest power tubes for the Mod 50???

I tried at least 3 brands of 6550s and KT-88s...

If you're doing 6550s...consider this another recommend for the TS 6550s...and a vote against the JJ 6550s, which sounded like they wanted to be the same as the TS but were flabby and not as clear.

Just for sake of completeness, I actually kept the Svet 6550Cs but preferred their tighter and 'colder' sound to the TS.

I know lots of people love the JJ KT88s (6550s), but I also hear lots of people like you say the bottom is not tight. Most on the forum say the TS 6550s are much more organic and warmer. You mentioned the Svets are tighter and colder and I think that is what bothers me about them. Might have to get the TS6550s soon.

don't consider a KT88 in the same league tonally as a 6550. They are not the same tone at all. I'm not a big fan of KT88s...and I've tried quite a few. Don't really think the Svets are "colder"...just different. The TS 6550s fit the Mod50's trannies the best IMHO.
