Anybody done any Warmoth builds? Now that the GT is done I'm thinking maybe a modernized Tele.

Maybe some thing like this:

So? Happy with it, sucky experiences? Bad quality, sucky routing, bad finishes? Any and all input welcome. Thanks guys.

Their body designs are a bit dated, the cavities are huge, and their necks rarely setup correctly from the get-go. All of their necks need fret dressing or some fret-attention to get it to upper-level quality in order to setup correctly.

I also had a green wood birdseye maple neck from them at one point which was not good.

Other than those issues their finishes and wood quality are normally excellent.

Hmm. That one you posted reminds me a bit of mine. I think Warmoth makes great products for the prices they charge. No complaints whatsoever.

As for my Tele: basically, I wanted a Tele body style with a Les Paul's electronics, with a tonality in between the two guitars. This was the result!.....

Like most things, they are "hit and miss" with more hits than misses in my experience. I've built many Warmoth parts monsters and have been pleased with all but a few pieces that I received from them. As was mentioned, it is likely that you'll need a fret dress for ultimate playability, but only if you use standard nickel frets. All of the ss fretted necks that I've gotten have been perfect out of the box. Fit and finish has always been top notch...their parts seem to built to very strict tolerances. I learned to be very picky/specific when ordering after getting some necks that were unbelievably heavy...I'd recommend a call to discuss parts rather than simply ordering them online.

Always had good luck with them. One of my favorite guitars is a warmoth build. As mentioned above, the SS frets are spot on. Sometimes the nickel frets are a bit sketchy.

Just ordered my 4th super strat. I did a few in the middle to late 90's and was disappointed with the quality of their products. .as of late they've been great. With all the options you have their tuff to beat for the money. .I love um

I built one a few years back . Then sold my suhr because the warmoth was every thing the suhr was for ALOT less cash . Ended up selling it cause I' just not a strat guy .

Here's mine. I did this as a clone of a Charvel Explorer Pointy since they don't make 'em anymore. I tried to do the paint on the body, but it was a nightmare and I ended up having Marty Bell do it. The paint on the headstock is actually a fully covering decal I had made. I just applied the decal and then clear coated, sanded with a bunch of different grains and polished it to a high gloss finish. No way you can tell it isn't paint:

Warmoth makes some great stuff. Finishes are top notch. Neck pocket fit is always great. Warmoth never claims that their necks are ready to go "out of the box" - they always need a proper final nut slotting and fret dressing.

This detail is why a lot of people rate their Warmoth builds as "so so" or "not so good". Because the fret dress and setup IS the difference between a good playing guitar and a bad playing one. I guess it's tempting to think that you can buy a neck and body, bolt it together, and start rocking, but the reality is that there's more work that goes into it.

If you pick the right kinds of woods, and put it together with care, you will wind up with a fantastic sounding and playing instrument. MY advice is stick to the tried and true tonewood combinations, to avoid suprises (i.e. misses).

Here's some of my Super Tele Builds:

I would so rock that guitar!

Ok...seems the consensus is pretty good.....Steve, that Explorer is sick......seems like everybody that does the Warmoth builds on their site opts for pretty traditional builds...should have figured the RT nation to be more appealing to me lol.

THIS thing is pretty much the vibe I'm going for, and I'm a GT fanatic...GREAT job Nick!

Rlord's is awesome too....I love the black binding on it, and that would definitely have to be present on mine, and that's pretty much what I'm gonna try for too, is something in the middle of my LP's and the strat project I have that's ever evolving.

Steve. That looks like absolute dog shit. I would never be caught dead playing that guitar.

Send it to me so I can play it night after night!

Gatdammit. Not helping my tele gas! Thinking about building a cheap supertele, and emailed warmoth; they said the would do an angled tele headstock as well.
Hmmm jeff beck esquire tele, but with an ebony board and an angled headstock?...

I haven't built a Warmoth but I did just finish a usa custom build and I am 100% in love with it. I went with them because they do a 25" conversion neck and that's what I want. The neck was perfect and the body was awesome too. Some of the best service I have ever received anywhere, I would highly recommend them. If you look around the net they usually get more love than Warmoth although they have less stock options of rare woods but I do think they have a lot of custom stuff that isn't on their site.

I have one complete Black Warmoth and 3 different necks on 3 Fender bodies(64, 57 Reissue and another Fender Body I bought from ebay)The Black one has a Poplar body and all the necks are bird's eye maple with Brazilian rosewood, ecxept 1 that's maple. The Red one(a real 64) and the black one are both heavily scalloped. They all have ss6100 except the one with just the maple neck which has thinner frets(ss6105 I think) The black Strat, Red Strat ans the 57 reissue(1994) are my main lead guitars. I love scalloped necks for lead playing, they're easy on my bad left hand.I built the black Warmoth in memory of my Dad passing away 3 years ago, it's my main live guitar and it inspires me because it makes me think of him when I play it! They all been reliable with no problems at all!
