Hey guys new Renegade owner..
Ditched the Sovtek 12ax7 tubes ,Love the amp but not a huge fan of Ruby el34 and sovtek 6l6..Havent had a chance to try the bias ...Was your set real cold from the factory???
It seems That there is quite a big volume change in the 1 and 2nd channel...
Any tips???

sOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.. since no one will answer..
I put new tubes in biased correctly..
I dont know..for a 65 watt amp the Alchemist had way more usable volume and the channels were more intact as,,,the clean was balanced against the dirt better...The volume distance betweem channels is horrible unlesss I use the boost.
Dont get me wrong the amp sounds good but the Bogner was better..

I only played the Renegade once. Combo at GC. I liked the Bogner as well. (1X12) combo at Best Buy. The Bogner had some really nice shimmering clean sounds. But the amp voiced that way to a certain extent seemed to translate into the OD channel (Mercury?) and it's sounded too bright (for me). Now the OD/channel 2 on the Egnater is the sound I like. It's truly what the sound of Egnater is for me, difference variations, but the stuff I like is still there. I honestly don't know a thing about biasing one though. Sorry.

It's weird.I read many rave reviews about the Renegade but, also,a few bad ones  .Like yours.I really didn't like the Alchemist 6L6 demo made by Reinhold himself (esp.the OD)...But,i think you're not the first to talk about a volume problem with the Renegade.I don't know if it was also about the channel's balance though...I hope Egnater will fix it,if there is a problem...How do you like the sound of the 2 channels?

I tried a Renegade. Liked the Head and Tourmaster cab, liked the 2 X 12, didn't care for the 1 X 12.

I noticed that the amp was loudest with the tube mix at 12 o'clock, and got quieter when you rotated either way. I guess that is because you are getting the most out of all four power tubes, but it seemed a little weird.

I like the 2nd channel the clean just seems to lack balls I should say..I dont know Ill mess with is some more....

Something doesn't sound right. Did you try any new pre amp tubes??

Especially when you say the volume balance is way off. Just doesn't make sense. I'm guessing there's a bad pre somewhere.

I had one at the house and it had plenty of usable volume and there were no balance issues at all.

If you have some spare pre amp tubes lying around, try swapping some out one at a time and see if you get any different results.

I would also try new preamp tubes. That makes a huge difference in the sound to me.

I did first thing,,,its not really noticeable but I guess I expected more from EGNATER...Ill still keep it though real reverb would have been worth 100.00 more.

That's perfectly normal. It's the same with the Rebel20 and you get used to it rather quickly.Really not a problem at all.I LOVE the tubemix !

I like it also. I wish the Tourmaster had something like it.

Can you guys explain the "balance" issue? I'm not sure what you mean.....

The main volume is hard to get a clean clean sound with out the gain makin it break up when competing with the 2nd channel over the same voume.. But otherwise Im starting to dig the amp   except that my dd3 farts but my other pedals sing in it..

It's surprising since the Renegade has more tools than most amps to avoid that problem
You can use Ch1 on 65W mode and Ch2 on 18W (+ separate gain , volume,TubeMix & EQ for each ch.) + you have 2 assignable Master volume (Main1&2).It should do the trick  ..

Maybe Im just thinkin the 2 main volume is a boost or meant for that reason,,not to have a seperate..Ill dork around with it some more but it sounds better each time I tinker with it... :D

Egnaters can be complicated amps, I think- Very flexible. After almost a year, I am still figuring out the Tourmaster- And ejoying every minute of the journey!

    :D

Volume 2 is a master boost, not a control for channel 2.

At identical gain and vol settings, there is a not-so-small difference in output volume on my Ren head too. But, I usually don't run the channels gain and vol at the same settings on both (I usually have Ch1 cranked higher), and I also use the Main 2 to compensate. I setup my footswitch so that Main 2 only kicks in for Ch1, and does not kick in Ch2.

I assumed it worked this way by design, but if others think there is a defect on some Rens, I would like to know

Did you get the owners manual with the Renegade? I'm still not clear on what the issue is (and I really do want to know) but it seems this is all in the manual. It sounds like you may be setting the knobs the same on both channels and finding one channel is louder than the other??? Is that what I am hearing?? If so, that is not really the way to set any amp knobs. We even included a number of possible starting points for setting the controls for certain sounds. If you don't have the manual, go to egnateramps.com and download it. There is a lot of useful information there.

It seems normal to me.But,of course, the gap shouldn't be too big..but,with my other amp,for ex.,at identical gain & vol settings, there will always be a big difference in volume between the clean channel and the dirt channels. That's why there is an independent volume Channel knob  !If you can get enough volume and headroom with your "clean" channel, everything is fine! And,again, the Renegade seems to be well equipped to achieve a balance...(Btw,why not use the 1° Ch on 65W and the 2° on 18W?)but i never tried one :( !
