It’s on Netflix. Overall it was okay, but man that Billy Joel is a real piece of shit

I thought it was really good. I would have loved it if Jake E Lee was included. I know the purpose of the movie was not to show all the people who got screwed over but it did touch on it. And as we all know Ozzy and Sharon screwing over Jake was one of the biggest ever.

looking forward to catching it tonight after work

The Billy Joel stuff was Billy listening to his Management & Record Company, I wonder if he regrets that?

Though it started off good, and the idea was great, but faded fast for me. Didn't really tell a story for me. It was just a series of boring interviews. :aww:

Exactly my thoughts. Billy Joel complete Asshole. And Alice Cooper came across like a class act.

I thought it was pretty good, even if there were a few notable people I'd like to have seen in there - they also didn't touch on the 'second career as a hired gun' thing, with people like Nuno, Greg Howe etc..

I liked it, definitely shines a light on Billy Joel's shitheadness....

Billy Joel's band got screwed bad, and also the biggest dick seemed to be that untalented hack from the band Filter... "I just wanna keep all the money to myself, why not!".

you noticed that to? Billy's attitude was the result of him getting hosed. not that it makes it right, but i would probably look at things differently if i had millions stolen from me....

Yeah. Richard Patrick. Kinda a trickle down since Reznor didn’t pay him shit, but that was before Pretty Hate Machine, Reznors breakthrough. But Filters bass player(the voice of carl’s Jr) was cool to share. Patrick blew all his Dow on drugs anyway, Guy was a dick too.

I agree Alice and Pink seem like they are top people to work for. I’m sure there are others.

Hired Gun was ok, but if you want to watch a great doc about session musicians you have to watch The Wrecking Crew. Great movie. It seems the players were more respected back in that era.

I'm no expert on Alice Cooper's music, but I really can't think of any of his songs that require top notch chops. He's based in Phoenix and lots of locals sit in with him and vice versa. I really don't think his stuff requires someone like Steve Lukather or Kenny Aronoff to pull off. But he came off like he was a good judge of A players. I don't see it.

As bad as Billy Joel comes off in that movie, he did stick with his band, when others wanted to hire someone else and passed on working with Billy because of it. Not Billy's fault those guys didn't save their money and lived like the gravy train would never end.

What I didn't understand was, it was management that screwed him, not his band. Why shit on his band. I have to believe there's more to that story. I agree that it starts off interesting but just becomes a run of the mill exercise in talking heads.

Well if he got screwed by management out of 10s of millions of dollars, why listen to new management and dump on his band? If anything I would be auditing management quarterly.

^^^ That.

It is in difficult times when someone's true character and class shines through... Obviously this Billy Joel guy is everything but that.
And of course, one has to be Petrucci or Satriani to play mr. Nice guy!
Nice going dipshits

I watched it and agree with a few things. Billy Joel boned dudes that he should have given some love to. It wasn't Stegman's fault Joel was gullbile.

Alice Cooper is cool as hell. He clearly has a way he runs his band and understands the industry as it effects him. He may not be nearly as cool if his band were the same 7 dudes since 1970 and the drummer asked to skip to Kiss.

It's interesting how the dudes that "made it big", Liberty, Szarzo, Aronoff, all did it with ultra charismatic frontment. Shows that the music business isn't all about music.

I’d say music business is least about music.

It's not that Pink really needs a guy with Justin's chops either, but I guess they want guys who's been around the world once or twice, who are serious, play the songs more or less perfect every time.. It's like Luke said. The good guitar player that can sing, always gets the gig before the fantastic guitar player that doesn't. None of Alice's guitar players are considered crazy good technical players, hell Pink's guitar player is a better shredder than any of them :D But they show up sober, on time, in tune, sing backup, are in the pocket.

There are many Youtube-Petruccis who've never played 6 minutes of rhythm guitar in their lives
