Loved the gain, but that's all it had. A one trick pony. Couldn't deal with not having a clean channel. How do you play songs that require a clean channel?

So I got a Fender Special Reserve Silver Bullet HRDLX III. Loves pedals. Now I get that thick, muscular, lush full chimey clean tone. It sounds so creamy at first I thought I had my chorus pedal on.

It loves dirt pedals. The Bogner Red is just fantastic through this amp. Got to say, really much happier with this set up.

The Green Channel on the 5153 50w is excellent for an amp with the kinds of tones available on the blue and the red channels IMO. I really dig it, plus the blue channel with the volume rolled off gives killer clean tones too.

Different strokes....

Not on the 112 combo. The head version....somewhat, but the 112 combo, at least mine had zero clean channel.

My 50 watt and 2x12 cab are regulated to band practice only. I'm forced to use the red and green channels but I'd rather use the blue and green which is just not possible. But for practice it's fine. That's why I prefer my 100 watters for gigging. I can use the blue channel for my high gain tones and still have the green for cleans.

I may be wrong here but couldn't you use a small midi selector with the 50 watt to switch between green and blue of you wanted to? I have the 50 watter coming tomorrow and I'm borrowing one right now and I don't find much difference in volume when switching between the 2. EQ is at or around noon on both channels as well. I guess it comes down to what you like to hear. I can have the blue channel roaring with gain and the green will be really clean when switched.

See, this thread kinda suggests to me that the 5153 1x12 combos are the exact same circuit as the stealth. Everyone who has one says it is better sounding than the head, and now there is an almost unusable clean channel. Again, just like the Stealth....I'm not sayin, but I'm just sayin.....

Exactly. When I returned it the guy was like the green channel should sound great. So he plugged in and was shocked.........."dude....you have 3 gain channels".

I am not sure why no one gets a clean channel out the stealth?
Its so spanky clear......its crazy!
Never use it much but its got a great fender clear tone.

I'm just going by the first reviews last year when guys first got them...loved it but clean channel was more gainy. Personally I'm interested in a 1x12 combo, since I really think it has the exact Stealth circuit. Too many people talk about how much better the combo sounds than the 50w head...we play maybe 2 songs that need a clean anyway..and a dirty clean works just fine...

When I was converting my Vietnam made 50w head to Mexico specs I asked Howard Kaplan (designer of the amp for those who don't know) a few questions including the basic gain and voice differences between the 50w, combo, 100w and 100S and this was his reply....

"The 50W Head does have more gain CH2 as compared to the 100W. The 50W Head and the Combos have the cleanest (lowest gain) of all the EVH Amps on CH1. CH2 on the 50W Combos is very similar to the 100S with more gain than the 100W. CH3 on the 50W and the Combos is very close to the 100W. The 100S has more gain on CH3 than the 100W and CH2 is also higher in gain over the 100W. The CH3 voicing change from the 100W and the 50W is subtle."

I like the 50 Watt head way way more than the combo. My buddy picked up a combo didnt dig it much. Same goes for the Stealth I played. Way too much gain. Prefer the 50 watt head.

I saw a demo of the combo and the guy demo'ing the amp essentially stayed on the green channel and said that it had more than enough gain for anything he played. He was rockin VH level gain on that green channel. To me, that's too much gain. The 100 water seems like it would be the one for me. I think working for it makes for a better player.

My EVH Stealth has an excellent clean channel. I am still shocked the cleans sound so good.

+100 on this. Sparkling clean for sure.
WE dick around with some clean jams....little delay in the mix. And this is one of the cleanest channels I have played.
Great this amp does both extremes. Super clean...to Brutal metal. :D
