Well said Andy

Andy has a point.

Also, as far as I can tell, he's not shit talking people who just think Joe isn't the right guy for the gig, but rather it sounds like he's talking specifically about the basement warriors online who were taking clips of Joe playing on the Howard Stern show and then putting them right next to clips of themselves knocking out the same intro from the safety of their own practice space after who knows how many takes to try and dunk on Joe, implying that he sucks and they're better, etc.

It's already been said here but there's nothing wrong with criticizing an act's choice to bring on a given musician and thinking they're not right for a gig, especially if the act is charging big money for tickets on a big money tour. Hell personally I'm no fan of Satriani's music in general, and I think Satch is a clearly poor choice for playing Van Halen stuff as much as anybody else in this thread. But I'm also not about to try and say I'm "better" or kick him while he's down by posting the best example of my own playing I can come up with next to the worst example I can find of Joe's playing in some sad attempt at making him look like shit. That's a dick move and Andy was fine to call that out I think.

Incidentally, Andy is also one of the more talented working guitar players around today. IMO he's earned the right to throw his hat in the ring about the issue.

I was gonna make a smart ass comment, but then I realized that you guys talk about Eddie the way me and my people talk about the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie.

So keep on fighting the good fight!

I agree, same thing with Pantera. I could play pantera better than zakk can, no one’s buying a ticket to see RaceU4her from rig-talk though
I'd go see you dude but then I'd say you sre jot the real Pantera....lol....jk

When I saw VH Ed could barely put 3 A chords together, let alone pull off Mean Streets.

why thank you, just flash your titties at me so i get an authentic on stage experience and we'll call it even

For real though, it would have been cool if Pantera did some kind of contest finding the best dime replacement for a real "tribute" and let the fans vote on it. make people record a few songs, pick the top 10 or something, fly them in for rehearsals, make a reality show out of it. i definitely would have gotten serious and taken a shot for that. i know i enjoyed that "finding a drummer" series dream theater did and i never even listened to them, i remember that old show mtv did for a band to get on an ozzfest that was cool too.

He's not wrong. But I don't think anyone here, including me, thought we could play Mean Street better than Joe Satch. I think some of us just felt he was the wrong guy for the job. Not because he is not good enough. It's because he doesn't have a lot of swing to his playing. Never has.

That and its not really a tribute tour.

You nailed it! EVH just had a “swing” to his playing and a lot other don’t. Makes total sense
