Is there a mini SD-1? I have the mini Tube Screamer. Is there a mini SD-1?

Wow, surprised by this . Didn't think there would be a noticeable difference .The Waza craft models get rave reviews .
I had the Waza and while I ended up returning it, the difference between my 86 and the Waza wasn't ginormous. My 86 does have a touch 'extra' in the mids. But the Waza is very good.

There is a noticeable difference, but it’s not a “no contest” type thing. I have five SD-1’s and the Waza. All of them are slightly different. The Waza is a little more hi-fi in the stock setting and the mids creep ever so slightly closer to TS territory. The modem “non-Waza” actually cuts less bass than the Waza does…….but the high end is harder sounding and more clanky. I like all of them and tend to rotate based on my mood.

I forgot to mention……putting the Waza in the “custom” mode and running the volume back to 12:00-1:00 is actually closer to the regular SD-1 than the stock mode

I am not a big fan of boost pedals, but this bad boy is not color your amp tone, and make angry any low gain amp. (TS808 on steroids)

Any of the maxons would be great. 808/od9/pro+/st9pro+/ood9/808x.
I'd say start with regular od808 if 80s radio rock/metal is the most you'll need.
808x if going extreme gain/metal.

I have an 808 to try

I loved the VFE standout in front of my old 80 JMP. It’s basically a mid boost with a high and low pass filter.

The Dragon in this video illustrates my main issue with most boosts. Sounds OK in certain registers but then that weird honk arises when you play in the middle registers. The Standout was better but it seems it’s always there to some degree. I really struggle with boosts because of this.

To be fair, the dragon hadna very inorganic thing going. It was by far the shortest pedal on my board..besides the boss metalcore

IMO with the JMP you will want something that adds compression and also filters the bottom and edge a bit,,,,,,which is why I suggest any of the maxon ods. They are all perfect for that effect. I would probably start with a clean-boost setting and turn the tone to about 10:00 to begin.

I was meaning that if you want to nail that era sound, you have to use the original. The Waza is good too and it will get close enough, but it’s missing something that I like better in the original, that’s all.

Bb preamp or pro co rat boosts marshalls nicely. Dirty tree or fortin 33 for more modern stuff
