What’s the tightest amp with the biggest low end you’ve played. ?

I have a new recording set up, have to figure out how to run ableton, switched to it after my brother raved about the awesomeness of it. It’s definitely not similar to pro tools or logic and has a learning curve. I haven’t been able to get the UA ox box into ableton at a decent volume. I am doing something wrong obviously and it is making me nuts.

when I get it figured out,I will post some clips. Prepare to be surprised.

the negative feedback control I had added tightens the amp up pretty well, and adding the buxom boost and the SAT switch gives you heavy duty metal tones. Super tight and punchy, retaining clarity and articulate as can be. It’s definitely tremendously brutal.

Would love to hear. . You'll figure it out!

LoL the Gower gave him that penis/tone envy. Seriously one of the best Gower clips out there. Gives me major GAS for a KK++. Such beastly growl and low end. Killer playing too by the way!
Appreciate the kinds words brother!!!

OMG haha was horsing around with this for the last hour

Mesa Studio Pre into an M180 power amp (like the Coliseum power section). I've had IIC+ DRG and III DRG but the low end and volume out of this thing is absolutely bonkers.

Both those get brutal metal tones, the second you hear it, you feel a hint of that metal inducing anger and head banging, and you have a compulsion to attack the guitar with a muted E strong assault, it’s so damn vicious sounding, you feel like you are the conductor of hell, conducting Satans hounds of hell as they blow on their wicked trumpets of death launching a sonic blitzkrieg laying everything to waste in its path!
:shocked: WHOA!!!!! Call of the trumpeting Hellhounds, Conductor of Hell, Muter of E, and Conjuror of Satan!!!!🤘:devilish:🤘

MI Audio Megalith for me, tight but big and mean. I hear the Herbert MkIII is pretty special, anyone spent time with one?

It’s not imo. Too smooth, polished and not organic sounding. I had my Mark III++ coliseum (no stripe version) AB’ed with it and wiped the floor with it. Was tighter, even more bottom end and way more raw, aggressive and growly. Not even close. I remember possibly liking the MKI Herbert more, but really didn’t care for any Herbert revisions or for that matter any Diezel made after the original blueface. Just not the same anymore after that one. Now those were special amps, not what they currently offer

The Megalith Beta is one of the last few amps I’ve been meaning to try. Sounds very promising based on the clips I’ve heard. Very curious about it. Only other high gain amps left on my list to try are JT, Larry and Hermansson

I've debated buying one of these bc I already have it in the C+ Coliseum AND the GEQ is in the POWER SECTION, wayyy different than in the preamp as pictured above. Still, if one of those popped up in my area I would snag it and depthmod it🤘

The schematics of the Studio Pre have the GEQ coming after all the gain stages, placing the GEQ right before you send the signal to the power amp, which same place the schematics of the C+ and III have the GEQ.

The Studio Pre GEQ is not like putting the GEQ pedal in the FX loop of a Mark head. When you do that with a Mark head, it puts the GEQ before at least one of the gain stages, which isn't really where you want to be dramatically cutting and boosting the EQ. The Mark FX loop is in a weird place.

Half true, the voltage is the key and it is far higher in the power section by a few hundred volts...

What are the voltages? The IIc+ schematic draws the GEQ in with the preamp for what it's worth. The power amp is on a separate page and starts with the phase inverter and also details the voltage supply. I don't see a schematic of the Studio Pre voltage supply; Id love to see it if you have it.

As a friend to the shop I will not do that. Trying to find what I have, let me look but in the meantime I just learned of another output tube rated higher than the STR415, the Tung-Sol 7581A. I asked Mike about running KT88s and he gave the thumbs down so this may be the answer for the tightest low end a power section could ask for.

I agree it’s bigger than the VH4 but it seems artificial in a sense.
Try the Herbert with an ISP guitar sub. Dwisted Dave,Juggy Mike and myself watched my Herbert almost fall off the cab while doing palm muted chugs at an ampfest. We were laughing our asses off.

By the way,the Randall X2 thru the warhead stack has crushing bottom end thru the 2x15 cab. Like insane tight bottom. Mailman in a thong bottom.

I was wrong. I just left the shop and the man said it's rail voltage around 50vdc...

Cool; I just sent a Mark III DRG in for repairs. Really hoping Mike B or anyone other there and get it fixed up.
