Load was mainly Triaxis, IIC++ and a modded Marshall.

Anyone who is interested in what gear Metallica used should check out this awesome site and the Facebook group that goes along with it. Nothing on Load yet, but I’m sure that will come in the future.

That album ain’t much different sonically than the black album, the mix is extremely similar. As stated, that album is still mostly boogie. Triaxis and strategy 400 would be ideal. And Marshall cabinets with Marshall vintage speakers, not boogie cabs. You’ll never get that tone with boogie cabinets.
I can get close to the load tone with a Mesa Mark IV into a recto cab as a matter of fact. I just dial the amp in to not be so tight... it's gotta have a bit of sag to it. The tone is on the dark side, so I think a Boogie cab does fine for that tone.

I’ll take your word for it, maybe they used Mesa cabs on load who knows.
