What Amps do you Regret Selling?

I’ve sold amps but never one I regretted. This includes a 94 tremoverb and a 1972 1992 Superbass 100W. Both amps I never even plugged in. Awful damaged deal turned me sour on the first and the second I sold in need of restoration for vet bills. I’ve also sold a 2204 79 fawn Marshall that was mint but was too clean sounding for a 2204. It just didn’t sound good.

Its really amazing how much those marshalls vary in gain

My first Peters Gryphon two channel. That amp had a mid roar like no other. Miss that amp.

Mids have a bark that dominated the mix perfectly. Could hear all the guitar and was mixed with the bass and drums like a perfectly recorded album.

Should of never let that one go.

Buuuut. I got a triple channel that is almost 99.5% as good. So fuck it.

It was so mint condition that after recapping it I sold it at a massive loss since it didn’t sound good. That was when I later found my 74 donor project which I’m much happier with being 2203 and 6550s

Diezel Herbert MRK I - This was a really special amp. The other ones I have tried (mostly MRK IIs) did not have the same magic in the low end and top end sparkle. With the mid-cut engaged on channel 2...It was near perfect

Mesa Mark III Red Stripe - The sheer aggression of this amp was astonishing at band rehearsal room volumes. Destroyed many more "modern: high-gainers. One nasty amp that had a "boosted" quality to it plugged straight in...Just angry

Custom Voodoo Mod Peavey 5150 II - Trace did an amazing job accomplishing the exact tones that I described to him. Still probably the best sounding 5150 I have played...And I've owned them all

All three of these amps sales clearly fit neatly into the "what the f*ck was I thinking???!!!" category....You Live, you learn.

I sold a Mesa Mark IV B after I got a Mark V and was still in the honeymoon phase and really regretted that sale. A few years later I bought another IV B and I'm glad I did, but I lost a chunk of money doing that

I also sold and re-bought a Silver Jubilee and an Orange Dual Dark. Crazy I know. I've learned my lesson, I just won't sell any more amps (except duplicates, I guess)

Aren’t Blue and Green stripe even more aggressive?

Marshall 2203X, Marshall 2555X, fryette 2/90/2....

all these sounded gloriuos but didn't have the Suhr RL back then and short of money 😢

Marshall 2203KK - I wasn't able to use his potential. I lived in an apartment with nervous neighbors next door. And he played badly through the loader. He wanted to play at full power through the cab.

Engl Marty Friedman Inferno - brain damage got me and I sold it.

Geez - where to start/.
3 MkIIC+ combos, Mk IV short head, Cameron modded head, Suhr modded head, Langner preamp, Marshall 20th anniversary half stack, Lee Jackson modded head, and 2 M-1000 metaltronix heads that were consecutive serial numbers..

I had Vox handwired AC15 I wish I would have kept.
Maybe the Boogie Cali Tweed combo I sold.

Don't care that I sold the Twin Sister, but maybe should have kept the mini DS?

Just my Randall RG100ES heads. I bought them really cheap, now they cost way more and they got the best SS tone I've ever heard with a boost in front. Tonally, when dialed in right and with a good cab they sound every bit as good as my old Mesa Mark III did, but was capable of getting even more brutal.

I remember taking my Mark III red stripe and a rg100es to record my bands demo in 2012. I recorded a song with the Randall and a maxon od808 and a song with the Mesa.... surprisingly the Randall sounded a lot better and the band all agreed, so I used that old 1986 Randall rg100es for the rest of the demo.

Sold both of my Mesa Mark III Simul-Class Long Chassis heads that got me through my 4-night / week Cover Band years. I labeled them “#1 Son” and “#2 Son” written on the back in sharpie next to where the cord exits the chassis so I could easily tell them apart.

“1 Son” went to a very good friend who has promised ‘right of first refusal’ if he ever decides to sell. “2 Son” was sold in Lawrence, KS in the late 90s to help pay for grad school - no telling where it wound up. I often comb online listings for Mark III heads looking for it with no luck thus far.

So if any forum member runs across a Mesa Mark III head that says “#2 Son” on the back - hit me up! I’d love to bring that one back home!
