What Are Some Noob or Bad Habits Y'all Have with Playing/Gear?

I can't tell you how many pedals I have cracked open trying to hunt down where the battery goes but I'll be damned if I can find it on most of them. Wayne is making me a custom OD/boots pedal with lettering on the PCB instructing me where to put the battery so I'm not fumbling around trying to figure out where the 9v goes anymore. I thought that was pure genius on his part.
Noob error: using batteries. I just thought something was wrong with my setup because the 9v in my 808 was going flat.

Try to put on something mindless on your TV and mute it. Play whatever the scene is making you feel. It's one of my go to's for warming up/writer's block.
Those penguins love metal is all I'm saying. :ROFLMAO: @errrrrl 's recent couple of videos kinda remind me of that. I find it more inspiring than just playing with a drum track, tbh.
Hey I didn’t know we were actually supposed to be improving ourselves!

Noob error: using batteries.
9v batteries are the tonal gold standard. I seek sonic excellence so I embrace all the benefits they offer. Tone, portability, reliability, convenience. The only thing I can think of that would be better than a 9v is two 9 volts.

How about a 10V battery? That’s what I run. It’s one louder. for when you need that extra push over the cliff.

Let me get this straight. So by going to a 10v it's like the pedal version of "going to 11"? I made quite a few computations in order to draw this conclusion.

I think my amps messed up forgot to turn it off standby lol
I have left my amp on several times, in standby, after taking an intermission from Madison Square Bedroom. I get focused on something else, wake up the next day and realize I was burning tube heaters all night. Don't drink and jam kids. :no:
- Bending with my second finger,
- not using a metronome,
- not tuning first,
- wondering why there is no sound (volume on guitar is off),
- realising after 20 minutes of playing my tone knob was down or I was in the neck position trying to play rhythm,
- blaming gear,
- not buying gear I actually need,
- buying things for wrong reasons and then getting attached, stopping me from buying the things I actually need,
- But the worst thing I ever done - I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa - and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.

Man, I feel so much better now. Thanks!
oh man, second finger bends is wrong too?

Not warming up!!!!! I forgot that one.

They still bend, but damn does my finger get sore. Can’t be good.

I color coded all of my connections.
Yellow = Input
White = Send
Red = Return
Blue = Footswitch Control
Green = Utility (expression/MIDI)

All of the jacks on my FX8, my board, and all of my amps (even at home) are color coded, and all of my cables are color coded.

I STILL PLUG THINGS IN WRONG!

Mostly I blame stage lighting though.

I hold the guitar like an absolute schmuck. Standing, it’s so high, I make band geeks look cool. Sitting, I move it over to my right side so my fretting hand is in front of my face. I end up picking around the 15th fret. It’s so fucking stupid.

- Bending with my second finger,

I didn't know that was a problem. I use my middle finger all the time. 🖕 What other finger would I use?

Better than sharp I guess :dunno:

But seriously, if you are going to use a 9v, at least get something decent like Energizer or maybe Duracell. Better tonez with Energizer for sure.

I hold my pick in a weird way which has probably held back my skill with certain techniques

Way too late for me to bother trying to re-learn "the proper way" now

Don't be so hard on yourself Kimg. I was lousy with a flatpick for years now I use banjo picks instead and am real happy. There is no one "correct technique" that's your unique fingerprint as a player, a gift from the Lord.
