What are symptons of a dying transformer on an old Marshall?

Thanks for the tips. The amp is a 1977 four input model.

The EL34 tubes in the amp now have very few hours on them as I haven't been using the amp much recently as I don't really trust it right now. I've also never run without a load on it.

It doesn't sound like I'm playing through a fuzz pedal and I've actually recorded some good rhythm tracks with it in its current condition. However, I know it's nowhere near sounding like what it sounded like in the summer of '09.

I've lined up a guy to look at it. We'll see what conclusions he comes to.

How ironic that we listen to all the "old" 'original' Jimmy Hendrix, Cream, Yard Byrds, Led Zeppelin, Clapton tunes and they ALL have BRAND NEW MARSHALL amps with BRAND NEW filter caps, BRAND NEW speakers, BRAND NEW tubes, BRAND NEW Output Transformers, BRAND NEW power transformers... HEHEHEHEE.
