Title says it. I need a 3x3 set of cosmo black/black nickel/however you want to call the smoky dark chrome color. I need to have the mounting screw at a 45 degree angle like this:

I normally dig locking Grovers, but they don't seem to make the locking versions in cosmo black. I've also had Gotoh 510's, and they are great, but I'm wondering if there's something better.

Graphtech ratios and Hipshots don't seem to come in that finish. Am I stuck with Gotoh or Schaller? Out of those two, which is better?

Thanks!

I put these Gotohs on my Schecter. The Schecter's felt cheap, these are high quality all the way. These are the SG381 Magnum Lock Keystones. Super nice, super smooth, made in Japan.

I am a gotoh guy when it comes to tuners, Schaller when it comes to Floyd's.

Just to note that I hate locking tuners. For me it just means one more variable to fail. I had a set of sperzel locking tuners and with six months two failed.

I dug the locking Gotoh 510's that I put some time ago on a guitar I sold recently. I seem to remember they were better than the standard Gotohs they replaced, but that was some time ago. Other than that, I don't have experience with the standard Gotohs other than the old ones on my RG570, but that guitar has a locking nut, so I can't really tell how stable they really are.

But are you guys are saying the standard Gotohs are good enough, and I don't really need to go for 510's? Honestly, that'd be great if I can save a couple of bucks.

Yeah, I don't like Sperzels either. They OK, I guess, but I've had better experiences with Grover, Gotoh 510, and Planet Waves. I kinda prefer the self-locking system on Gotohs and Grovers, TBH.

do you mean black nickel, like this?

These are Wilkinsons from Amazon. I don't see too many of any well known brands in black nickel, unfortunately. Doesn't mean they aren't out there, though.

Yeah, black nickel like that. The folks at Schaller call it "ruthenium" and Ibanez/Gotoh call it "cosmo black". Not sure if its the same on all (chrome vs nickel, or something like that), but these are all close enough.

I'll look into those. Thank you.

Normal gotohs are all you need imo. I have them on at least 8 guitars. Never have a problem with them. Never had one fail/slip in 10+ years.
