Well I just won one on Ebay... So we'll see... :D

What exactly is it?

80s delay rack unit, EVH had several SDE-3000s in his rack for the last tour as well as Vai during the Whitesnake years.

It's an old Roland delay unit. I'm talking OLD! Like from the 80's. Supposedly a great-sounding unit which you can get for like $50-75 or so.

Awesome, thanks guys...well how can you lose then for $75? :D

Hey Vrad,

I have one and it is a killer delay! I dont use mine in an FX Loop, but i use it when im slaving my amp in a Wet/Dry setup. That way i dont get any tone suckage on my main amp.

The modulation is the best part of the SDE series Delays IMO.. You can add a touch of shimmer to the repeats, and it really makes the delay sound awesome!

How is it in the loop? Too much tone-suckage compared to newer units?

I've never tried the SDE-1000, but the Roland rack units aren't the most series friendly units around.

SDE330 actually cuts the dry volume quite a bit.

The RSP550 has mostly 100% wet algorhithms. And, the ones with a dry signal run into phasing issues with parallel loops. This unit is like the big brother to the Boss SE-50 (I miss that little guy :( )

Yeah not a fan of rack gear in the loop, I run w/d like Dan does so I maintain my dry tone.

Of course I am a basement player and do not have to lung that crap out to a gig.

I have one and I like it but it doesn't have a line level option (0dB or +4), only -10dB. I bought it before I knew that.

WTF?!?!?!

Every Roland piece of gear I've ever owned has had an option switch for -10/+4

My 3000 and 330 have the switch.
