Does anyone know the size/thread for the screws that hold in speakers?

Man... Tonight, a simple speaker-swapping procedure turned into a ridiculous project.

Tried to install an Eminence Governer into my Bogner Shiva Ported 112 cab. First of all, the screw holes did not line up properly. (I'm guessing it's the speaker, because both a Celestion and Scumback fit perfectly...)

Second, once I got the speaker in place (using too much force), the recessed back panel doesn't fit in the cab anymore due to a 1x1x25" reinforcement bar running horizontally across the center of the back panel. It's hitting the magnet. (The eminence must be 1/4" deeper than the Celestion/scumback).

Even worse, now when I backed the screws out, two of them have stripped threads.

I'm really hoping that the metal inserts in the cab itself are not stripped too, cuz that would be a nightmare to replace, due to the Bogner's construction. It would involve removing glue, taking the cab apart, trashing the grillcloth, etc, etc. I tried a non-stripped screw in a questionable insert, and it's not *super* smooth, but it works so far... fingers crossed.

Here's what the back panel looks like:

And here is how it fits into the cab, and how I'll have to route the reinforcement bar to accomodate the deeper Emi speaker. (these are cross section drawings):

They're usually #10-32, but maybe you could contact Bogner and confirm.

That sucks about the back panel and yes, Eminence mounting holes are a little different.

T-nuts can sometimes be replaced without major surgery. One method is to thread in a bolt, just about 1/4", and hit it with a hammer until the bad T-nut pops out. It's a good idea to have something between the T-nut and grill cloth. To install the new T-nut just push it into place, thread in a bolt with a stack of washers (enough that the bolt doesn't poke through to the grill cloth) and tighten it down as much as you can without burying the bottom washer in the wood. That should seat the T-nut well enough.

The problem is that the way the cab is made, it appears that the T-nuts are installed BEFORE the grill cloth went on.

Why the F*#$ would eminence make their mounting holes different? That makes no sense.

I *think* that I should be OK. Probably going to add a little bit of lubricant to that one bolt to ensure that it goes in smooth.

I replaced my buddies greernbacks for Eminence,no problems with the holes lining up

I dunno JMGman I'm stumped as hell.

I'm going to have to take a round file and try to open up the emi's screw holes just a bit.

I would never have guessed,I had absolutely no problems.Did you put the two together and they just don't line up

That's normal. You should still be able to slip a hand between the grill cloth and the baffle to catch the bad T-nut as you pound it out/install the new one. Then again, I've never actually seen one of those cabs myself.

"Why the F*#$" indeed. There's variance from one manufacturer to another. It's best to just drill out the speaker's mounting holes a little to avoid cross-threading.

Cool. Good luck.

I had a similar problem installing a Super V. The speaker was so big that I needed longer screws to mount it. I hosed up the metal inserts so I just used wood screws into the baffle.
