What is Two Factor Authentication?

2FA is just a second way of confirming your identity. With the increase in online scammers, it helps ensure you are who you say you are. I just enabled 2FA for my account and the process was fast and simple.
 
I recommend google authenticator for a two factor authentication generator. Google has a free app you can download. There’s also browser extensions you can use - pick your flavor.

You put your username and password in the authenticator app or browser extension. You logon to the forum using the same username and password. You are then prompted on the forum to put in the code from your authentication app/extension before it expires and you’re good to go.

The forum lets you keep logged in for that code for over 30 days at a time before you’re required to generate another one to login again using 2FA. If you never sign out then you can go longer than 30 days without being bothered (it doesn’t force you to sign out to then sign back in with 2FA).

Looks like the guys covered it pretty well here. I was going to be silly and go into high level detail about how it works and all that jazz but I'll save us all the displeasure.

It's an easy way to increase your security and there are several authenticators to use. I agree that Google Auth is very easy and reliable.

How long does it take to work. I did the 2fa but still can’t post in the sell section.

I would recommend you add 2 factor authentication to any and all of your online accounts. This can really save you headaches in the future. It may be a bit of extra trouble, but man is it worth it!

Good move mods for forcing this to be enabled to sell. I think we all appreciate it!

It was originally my idea and took a lot of convincing but I am grateful the admin team took heed to the suggestion and required it for our safety :rock:

Yeah but you also suggested all members should be forced to send in a picture of their "package" to determine membership qualification and that got shot down...but batting .500 is still pretty good!

I haven’t done this yet since my old account was hacked and was about to post this very topic

I remember that Captcha…check all the boxes containing your package.
 
Yeah, something is jacked up!
I was just able to reply to a classified, then did some editing and said I need 50 posts and two-form authentication. I have 337 posts and went into security and enabled it and email authentication....but still can't respond in the classifieds!! Maybe it takes a little bit, else I'm clueless what the issue is and why coming up now!

I did the 2fa thing and it took about an hour I guess for whatever to go through, now all is well after a little time.

Took a bit for my account to get access after enabling two-factor. Around an hour-ish I think.
 
Prolly a good thing given the level of online fraud nowadays.. The need to have your phone in your hand to login is a good thing although a PITA...
