What Pickups Did Yngwie Use To Record Rising Force Album?

I have an hs3 in a strat .
For blues and warm sounding stuff I dig it and to me it is unique and has its own sound .
I would agree with others it can be a bit dull .
For certain things it is great for others not so much .
I like to have it when I want a different tone / groove or feel .

Sorry for the necro bump! And for the bigass picture.

I think it's an FS1.

For the record, I have a super old HS3 and it sounds very different from the newer HS3's.

Whatever he was using for the live Alcatrazz is what I would be most interested in knowing. Reading that DiMarzio interview up above, I guess it could be the FS-1 or the HS-3.

You say that about Duncans too. I just did a head to head tone test with a 1984 Duncan Custom and a brand new Duncan Custom. I recorded it just to be sure. I used the same guitar. I heard no difference between the vintage, MJ wound old Custom and the brand new one.

I'm thinking the whole pickup thing, the boutique pickup thing is a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

I wish it were smoke and mirrors. I would just buy new and be done with it. I'm so sick of the pickup search.

Eh, put in a good Duncan, Dimarzio, BK, MC or Suhr and be done with it and play your guitar. It's not that difficult.

Haha, Well, my Les Paul has a DD bridge and JB neck, my 5 Charvels have either a DD, EMG or Suhr SSH+ and Aldrich. They seem to work for me. Never got along with Dimarzio, BK or MCP.

The Rising Force and Alcatrazz sure sound like a HS-3 to me, I stuck one in the neck position of one of my guitars and it totally had that tone, volume wise though it was much lower than a humbucker in the bridge

I HATE the HS3s...I prefer the Virtual Heavy Blues...those have output. I don't think the HS3 was around early enough for Rising Force or live Alcatrazz, I would imagine those are FS-1s... He talked about shielding his strats to combat noise in early interviews and he wouldn't have had to do that with stacked humbuckers (HS3s) in there... for the record I like SDS-1s too...VERY hot output, true single coil.

Here is a clip I made tonight of my strat loaded with an old mid 80's HS3 in the bridge and late 80's HS2 in the neck. I am using an original CCV with the same settings I use with humbuckers. playing sucks as I just picked it up and recorded. I'm not use to the low bridge or the neck radius. lol
