Hey guys, I just discovered rig talk, and am in need of some guidance. I am GASing for a Rebel 30, but don't know which set up to get. It's either full stack, combo with an ext. cab or the 212 combo with maybe another ext. cab. Right now I have a Mesa Triple Rectifier and a Marshall 4x12 1960A, I've always dreamed of owning a triple rectifier half stack, but now that I have it, I've realized how unrealistic it is to have one. I am currently not in a band, the only time I ever play out is at church at the moment, and the monster is just way to loud for what I need it for. So I'm deciding to sell it and buy one of these Rebels. But I don't know which one to get, and would like to know if in the future I am in a band, will this thing be able to hold up to a live drummer and some small gigging. And the other question I had was, I own a Nova System and would love to take advantage of the stereo effects it has. So would I need to have 2 completely different amps to achieve this or what? Could I get 2 112 combos and use it like that, and when I need to get more volume just use one of the combos as an ext. cab, would that even be possible? Anyways as you guys can see I'm pretty confused, so thanks for the help in advance.

I can understand the practicality of ditching the 4x12 and 100 watt head for something smaller, but keep in mind that these are two completely different amps. If you covet your Mesa tone, you WON'T be replicating it with the Rebel 30.

That being said, the Rebel 30 is a great rock amp in its own right. There are a few good Youtube demos you can check out for starters.

As far as which to get, I would suggest getting the head. Heck, if you play it right, you could sell your Mesa head and purchase a Rebel 30 head and maybe even one of the 112x cabs, and still keep your 4x12.

I gig regularly with a pair of 112x cabs and the Rebel 30 head, and it's plenty loud for any small to medium sized club. I rarely push the volume past 9 o'clock, but I also mic my cab and run through the PA.

As far as the Nova System and running in stereo, I can't really help you there. Do you run that in stereo with your current cab?

Ya I have checked out as many of those videos on youtube as I could, and I am in love with the thing. I do understand that they are two totally different amps, I'm not a metal head in any sense of the word, but I do like my distortion. I'm pretty sure that the Rebel is going to have enough gain on tap to keep me happy. Plus I love a great clean sound, and well the Mesa just obviously doesn't have that. Now if I keep the 4x12 would I be able to run that little head on that cab?!?!? Seems kind of like an overload. Ya I was thinking I could possibly pick up a head and cab, if I just sell the Mesa head. I was thinking that if I were to get either the 112 combo or the head and cab, that I would pick up an extra 112 cab just to give it a little more oomph. As far as the stereo thing...no I have never played in stereo, but I keep hearing how awesome it sounds. So I was thinking of going that route, but I don't know. Thanks again for the advice

How much you guys think I could get for my triple rectifier head? It's got the series loop mod on it. Origianl tubes and has never been gigged.

Just off the top of my head. I'd go Rebel thirty head, Egnater TM 2X12 cab, and throw in a Suhr Riot Pedal for the heck of it, just in case you to really bring down the house. The idea with two combos for your rig sounds like it would work well too though. Yes it will power a 4X12 cab with ease, I have not tried it, but I believe it will Rock out big time.

Yup, the head will work fine on a 4x12. I recorded recently using my Rebel 30 head and a Mesa Boogie (ironically enough) 4x12. Here's the link: http://www.netmusicians.org/index.php?s ... musicmanmu

It definitely thumps that way!

For me, I'd pick a head over the combo for versitality. You can use any cab you'd want to that way and have the ease of transporting just the head (which weighs a whopping 23 pounds   ).

If you did pick up a pair of 112x cabs, you could spread them on stage and get stereo seperation, but I'm not sure that's the same thing as what you're looking for? Sorry, I'm not much of a techie when it comes to gear!

At any rate, yes the cleans on this are awesome, and the distortion is a good solid rock gain. I use a boost pedal for the really heavy stuff and it works awesome.

Don't know how much you could fetch for your amp. Maybe search out eBay for some estimates?

I appreciate the input even though you may not be a techie, personal experience is just as good in my eyes. Ya I'm thinking to have a stereo rig I would actually need to amps, but I could be wrong, seeing that I also am no expert on this stuff.

get the head!!!! I have given up 412s years ago. Just not necessary today in my opinion playing at home or local clubs. My TM212 I swear sounds huge, and full like a 412. Amazing cab. I also use a Randall NXT cab as well which I love. I have also gravitated toward partial open backs because I like the air it adds while retaining punch. I use these with the Mod 50 and a VHT ST/50.

I am alsdo grabbing a Rebel 30 head for portability and smaller gigs. I thought about two 112x cabs but I prefer at least one cab to be open back or partial open to give better spread on stage. You can hear yourself better with an open back. If only they made one with that option. I also don't want something else to carry even if it is light. Having two 112s to carry or one light 212? I'll take the 212. I decided to get a THD 212 cab because it is only 45 lbs and has a nice strong handle on top. I could easily carry this and Rebell at once!

Get a head....Combos always have tube issues sooner or later because of the xtra air and vibration the tubes are subjected to....The Rebel 30 head is LOUD.....can easily run your 4/12....I run mine with either oversized 1/12's or 2/12 openback cabinets....It's just killer.......The amps is worth 3X what it cost

Alright well guys I pulled the trigger....I've put my triple rectifier up for sale and once its gone hello rebel  Hey if you guys are interested or know of anybody who is interested in my head let me know. Thanks again for all your advice.

I have the Rebel 30 combo and the Rebel 1X12 extension cab. Benefits are that together they sound awesome, the combo is open back-ish and the 1X12 cab is front ported, these two together give a great overall mix of tones. Also, if I just want a quick grab and go set up....on hand holds the combo, the other grabs guitar with gig-bag.

I can use the combo as a "head" as well, it also sounds great plugged into my TM212.

Either way, head or combo and I think you will love it. It is my favorite amp in a long time.

Here is a pic of the two together

Dude that is some serious sexiness! I bet that PRS sounds amazing through that rig. Ya I am dying to get one, but until I sell this mesa, I won't be able to do anything  Hopefully soon though!

F the amp- Tell us about the axe!

;) :D

Ahhhh! Its a Sunburst 22, one of my favorite PRSi in my stash ;) It just has that worn in feeling and has tone to the
moon. It has 57/08 pickups which are very nice, I just put a DGT p/u in the bridge position...it adds a bit more sizzle.
This guitar just begs to be played through the Rebel 30....I have a couple Les Pauls that just cant sing the way this one does through the Rebel 30.

I had a PRS for a long time that I liked but a couple of things bothered me- I didn't like the rotary selector, but it looks like this doesn't have that? Also, I think you can't do up-pulling on the whammy bars on these things?

You can pull up about a 1/2 step (factory spec) This has a push-pull tone knob which splits the coils and a 3-way toggle.
If you haven't heard the 57/08's in both full humbucker and slip-coil tones...you are missing out. The volume and tone knob are so sensitive...each little movement really does affect the tone. Go try one!

Very cool, I have virtually the same PRS setup--even the color is similar. I also have the Rebel 30 combo, but rigged up my own extension cab with a Celestion 30 Watt Anniversary speaker. The guitar originally had the 5-way pickup selector and Dragon II pups, which I disliked. When I upgraded to the 5708 pickups (best move ever!!!) I also changed over to the 3-way toggle with push/pull coil tap. PRS advised that the 5708s don't work with the rotary 5-way switching.

I'd honestly have to say I would go with separate Rebel 30 head and cabs if I could do it over. My Rebel 30 had a warranty problem and shipping is VERY expensive. It's probably like I always used to say about stereo components: "buy individual pieces."

I have two Rebel 30s. One is a combo loaded with a Scumback H55 plus a stock 112 Extension Cab. The other is is a head which I have connected to an Avatar 212 loaded with a Celestion Vintage 30 and a G12H30. The head/Avatar sounds way better than the the combo amp with the extension. The Avatar is open-backed and has a lot more bottom end. I leave the combo where I have band rehearsal and use the combo for practice at home and gigging.

Thanks guys for all your help, I'm so glad I found this place. Much better than HC, much nicer folks as well. Now if I could only sell this Mesa Boogie. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to get rid of it. I've posted it up on craigslist, and was thinking about taking it to musicgoround, I know I would get more for it if I sell it myself, but I don't know.....whats y'alls thoughts?
