That happened on my Godin Multiac a few days ago except it sounded distorted. For a little bit I thought I'd blown something on my acoustic amp. Yes it was just the piezo battery.
Mine sounded distorted as well. It's what clicked the light bulb on about the battery for me. I spent most of my life playing a '74 4001. No battery.

I feel like a lot of “impressive” slap isn’t the “hit the string with your thumb” and that’s it. It’s learning and utilizing in good timing all the hidden ghost notes. All that crazy percussion makes it that more impressive. I’ve been trying to get used to that mindset, it’s so difficult.
I'm a big Larry Graham fan. Also Claypool.

Had the same deal recently and actually it was the cable. But that's because I'm using cheap livewires. But at least guitar center will replace them no questions asked.
The Mogami Golds are guaranteed forever as well. Mine are at least 13 years old and have never failed. When I was gigging though they only hooked my board up to my amp ( They're 40') and I used a G50. No point in wireless these days.

I think there's a lot of snake oil in cables, but I felt good about the Mogamis and it seems my instincts were correct. Thousands of gigs on them.

I got a couple hundred gigs out of a Mogami gold before it died. I'm not driving all the way to GC to get a replacement so I threw it in the trash and got a cable made by a local player that went another four hundred gigs before it died.. Switchcraft ends plus a decent quality cable is just fine. Mogami is nice but the idea they are head and shoulders above a bunch of other cables is snake oil. I got D'Addario and Dimarzio cables and they work just fine.

That's cool. I have a gig in St. Louis next week that I need a bass player for. Downbeat is 7 pm, see you there

I been working on originals and Samba Pa Ti the way Santana does it for some side fun.
Well brother, it has been easily 30 years since I was in a blues band. Or a band with more than 3 members for that matter. Though I did have a side gig for awhile with a 5 piece. Mostly some studio stuff and a movie soundtrack. I did do about 20 local gigs with them. I was trying to push them into a "Hellbilly" situation, but it was pretty firmly in the "Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson" vein. Did some weird covers. Like Electric Avenue, Pretty in Vegas, Personal Jesus, Don't you forget about me. Bandleader played an acoustic, then 2 guitars ( one doubled on keys), a drummer and me. Very "Acoustic" sounding. It was kind of cool just being a normal bass player for a change. No singing, not much extra cirricular playing like you do when you play hard rock in a 3 piece ( which is my forte). I didn't even use my SVT. Mostly it was the Ric or a P with flats through an old Peavey Mark IV/ 2-15 rig.

It was a time killer for me. I was waiting on MY band, or more specifically, my Drummer, to get his shit together.

I did 3 piece gigs for a long time. So long actually that I started refusing to do 3 piece gigs for a very long time other than getting paid rehearsal in with a new bassist, the guy I've been working with since late '18. Great player with a great attitude and work ethic. At this point I am better equipped to stick a 3 piece situation if the 2nd guitar is a no show but I got a real good 2nd guitarist these days. I never really believed in 3 piece blues bands, it's all based around economics, which is not the measure I use when setting up a band so I been four piece for about 15 years.

BTW I did some digging on some of those Soulard clubs today. Man, I checked all the ones I was given leads on and there was ONE blues band booked at any of those clubs, save for blues city deli, which apparently doesn't even keep a calendar for their bands (which is pitiful).

Wow, really ? That's a shame. That's all that used to be up there. 1890s, Mike and Mins, all those bars had blues bands.

Maybe look just outside of Soulard. BB's Jazz Blues and Soups surely caters to blues and jazz guys. Back Street Jazz and Blues in Westport. I guess you gotta spread out a little these days.

"The Soulard blues band" plays one club every monday or tuesday or something like that. I couldn't find any other blues groups. I'll look around some more, there's gotta be some places and a few more groups. I know a couple guys from here who have played the deli but that place is a shoebox.

Any club names or names of local blues bands operating is stuff that is helpful cause I can back track their previous gigs through their facebook page and find names and contacts. Thanks Floyd.

Check out the loop too. Blueberry Hill particularly. Chuck Berry used to play there all the time. I saw him a couple 4 or 5 times there. Lock your doors and keep your shit out of sight in STL brother. Bunch thieving hood rats around.

I could get Von a gig at Stagger Inn. I warned him about the city. Thiefs are targeting band vans and trailers.

Are you seriously in St. Louis dude ?
No I was just pulling your chain cause you said you don't play in bands anymore, lol

Thanks for the additional leads. I feel like looking at what qualifies as "blues" these days is like sifting through a pile of wreckage.

It might come to pass but I'm working on some local stuff plus running east towards FL on I-10 in June or thereabout. Might be planning on a northbound ride maybe in August but that part is totally speculative at this point. I need to start filling the gaps between local shows and branching out more.
