What speakers are you all using these days?

Celestion Alnico Cream + Scumback M75 in an Emperor 212.

Wanted the low end thud of the AC but the mids/highs of a greenback, and went for Scumback to better match the power handling (granted I'm only running a 50w Monomyth through it right now, but I do also own a 100w Plexi).

Have a few different ones….depends what I am doing.
Celestion T1511 20 watt GB
90’s GB’s
Mid 2000’s Mesa V30
2016 UK V30
Creamback 65
Redback
WGS British Lead and ET65
78-79 Fane Purple 122/255
EVM12L
Wizard Rock 20 and Alnico
60’s Jensens

I picked up an old Marshall JCM800 series cab with '86 G12T75's in it. I've played T75's before and really hated them so I didn't have high expectations, but these old ones totally floored me. Turns out, despite the name, they have different codes and stuff and seems to me they may as well be different speakers compared to the new ones. Much more rounded off highs and stronger mids, less aggressive than the newer ones.

That was almost 3 years ago now and I'm still thrilled every time I use that cab so it's not the honeymoon talking either.

That said, I would really like to try some Redbacks and Lynchbacks sometime. I haven't dabbled in almost anything non-celestion and I know I'm missing out too

In my VHT Pittbull 50/12 combo (open back ) I've put a Celestion RedBack and in my 2x12 cab for my Ampeg VL1002 I've mount two Celestion V-Type. The redback was recommended to me by Dave Friedman to replace the original speaker which was an Eminence/VHT branded which didn't sound bad in the low end and low mids but had very crisp highs.
the V-Type was a nice surprise a nice mix between a greenback and vintage30 taking the best of both worlds

V30's. It never really changes. I tried G12T75's but didn't like them. I've got 2006 and 2007 V30's too, which are supposed to be bright and spikey, but I actually find them dark, and i'm always turning the presence way up on amps I use with my recto cab. It's had a lot of break in though... hundreds of hours at loud volumes.

I use a Mesa compact 2x12 with their V30's running parallel with a KSR 2x12 with Creamback H75s. Also just got a KSR 4x12 with a Creamback H75/M65 mix.

WGS Retro 30 speakers in a Splawn Vertical Wide 212 cab. Thinking about going back to V30 though, but want to try the MESA/BOOGIE V30s.

I’ve got the Retro 30’s in a 2x12 and dig ‘em quite a bit. Really easy to mic since you’re not trying to find that sweet spot without that mid/high spike in there. My other 2x12 is an old Mesa with C90’s and while the C90’s can peel paint off the walls, they blend together pretty well until they hit that point the 30’s start farting out and the C90’s are just pummeling everything.

someone recently did a clip with a jensen tornado i was very impressed with, i might snag one of them for something different than celestions
I’m thinking of grabbing a Jensen Jets Electric lightning and a nighthawk to throw in my 2x12 cab. I’ve heard good things.

UK GBs, V30s, H75, Cb65(meh), SB BM75LD 65w, have some WGS Invaders to try, and some Modern Lead 70s that I can't give away.

Celestion: G12-65’s, G10 CB, G10 Alnico Golds,
Scumback: H75-65, Scumnico 65, H55-30
ASW: KTS-70, Elegante
Altec: 418B
EVM: 12L

Two cabs with G12M 25W

I’m wanting to get two more cabs and run EVM12-L classics bottom G12T-75s top.

Scumback M75/J75 combo in my 4X12 and my 2X12
they work perfectly with my Splawn head and give the exact sound I need for the band I've been working with

I moved to the Celestion Neo V-type for both of my 1x12 cabs. A bit lighter to move around and honestly, they sound fantastic once broken in. Very happy with them. I gig quite a bit now and am also playing in a local house band so I don't want or need to be slugging huge gear around anymore.

Marshall BX Cab - Lynchbacks
Surreal Cab - Creamback G12H75 / Creamback Alnico X Pattern Mix

4x Celestion G12H Heritage 75hz in my dry cab
1x Celestion G12H Anni in my wet cab
1x Eminence P75 (VHT) in the 2nd wet cab

I will probably change the eminence to another Anni...

EVM12L
Redback
ET90
Celestion H75
Scumback H75
Haven’t gotten great recorded tones from the Redback and ET90 though.

Awesome pairs:
EVM12L/Redback (Best in the room)
EVM12L/Scum H75 (best recorded tone, great in the room)
ET90/C. H75 (Great in the room, haven’t tried recording yet)

Best by itself: EVM12L. Scum H75 a close runner up.

Gas’ing for Scumback J75 and H55

I almost forgot about Redbacks. I've eyed them a time or two also, but keep riding the fence. Clips sound pretty good, but I've also read that they can be rather dark. Though I'm wondering if those who say they're dark have played them in person. In clips I hear some thicker lower mids, especially compared to a V30 but I wouldn't necessarily describe it as dark.
FWIW. I have 3 redbacks, one (older?) one with the black cardboard gasket, 2 (newer?) ones with cork gaskets, they’ve all been played around 90 hours at drummer volume. The cardboard gasket one is fairly dark, one of the cork ones is pretty neutral and the other cork one it pretty bright. I’m not talkin small differences, the dark and bright are so far apart they shouldn’t have the same model name.

Interesting about the differences across 3 Redbacks. I know there's going to be some slight variations from speaker to speaker, but there shouldn't be a night & day difference. I wonder if it was a manufacturing/materials change or a QC issue.
