Hey, everybody. I have a question. I want to buy myself a guitar amp. It's no special, just to play guitar with good sound.

I've asked some people, and I realized that it would be better to buy a Boss Katana amp.

And I'm thinking of getting a Boss Katana or some kind of analogue, maybe? Any thoughts on here?

Or should I consider cheaper options?

Found an interesting review of the comparison of boss katana vs tube amp.

I like the Boss Katana a lot and would recommend it to myself as what to buy if I was looking for an inexpensive amp nowadays. FYI, I may be selling my Katana head (with built in speaker) soon and I am in North New Jersey too.

Do you just need something small to practice through and maybe record with?

I tried one of those Yamaha THR units and was really impressed with how it sounded.
The Fender Mustang GTX are really decent as well.

THR> Katana imho.

Owned both. Flipped the Katana within a month if that tells you anything. The THR is still sitting in my bedroom and occasionally used for woodshedding.

If you have no setup right now, no pedals or anything, you can do a lot worse than a Katana. I think it's great amp for "finding tones" because of all the pedals and editor. Plus, it sounds pretty damn good. Some guys want to compare it to their $4000 tube amps and dismiss it but as a tool...it's a really good one.

Another +1 for Yamaha THR amps

I've been a devout THR user ever since they were first released (I currently own the THR10X and THR100HD; had the original THR10 in the past)

Lately I've been thinking of upgrading from the 10X to one of the new 30 watt THR2's.....but the THR10X is one of my favorite amps I've ever owned; I'd hate to flip it and possibly end up liking the new one less

If you're just looking for an amp to enjoy at home for practice and/or recording, I don't think there's a better option out there than the THR's

If it is purely for home use then I would not even think about getting a tube amp these days. I have played both THR and Katana and you can't go wrong with either. I have a Katana 100 head and it is fantastic... It is my go to amp at home. Still love my tube amps and when I really want to "play" guitar instead of just noodling I run the Katana in stereo with one of my tube amps and it is AWESOME

One of those SPark amp things is also be an option

Again you can't go wrong with any of them ... so buy the one you thinks looks coolest

I have messed around with both the THR and Katana. Enjoyed both, despite owning neither. The THR is a easier plug in and play and enjoy, the Boss to me is not quite as much, but the editing goes deeper.

To me I would try both and see what style of tweaking fits you personally. Both IMO have solid potential.
