I think it has more bass, fuller sounding, probably dropped tuning. And agree, it’s probably more about the mix than the stand alone guitar sound.
yes, indistinguishable mud and muck far below any semblance of articulation.

I feel like my Diezel VHX is Modern Tone,

Maybe so . Are you doing an album with it?

ok, this answers some questions i had about his tone, its even more complex than i was thinking but i figured he had to have a few amps all separately processed.

Not my favorite, but encapsulates what some would consider modern era metal rhythm tone:

Mesa Badlander, it's all over Lamb Of god's latest album, which sounds very modern to me and not very typical LOG production wise, it's too polished sounding for me.

Any random country with that crap metal guitar sound.
That to me is modern.
It's a product like fast food or instant pasta dishes.
Completely fake and makes you a bit sick after you eat it.

I'm thinking modern in the post Covid era.

^ great point

What I was going to say has already been said. More production, layered guitars, less hair on the tone, more lower mids, dropped tuning, chugga chugga, breakdowns, ....

Love it
